Anyone have a 03 jayco kiwi 23B or one around this age?

We are thinking of purchasing a 2003 model. It's been garage kept since 2003. It looks like brand new. Are these good TT's? Is there anything we need to know about this particular model, basically anything bad, like do they leak etc etc?
  • We have a '04 23b. It's held up well, no leaks. Changed tires last year, and performed routine maintenance. Otherwise, it's been trouble free. Stored outdoors during camping season, indoors during the winter.
  • We used to have an '03 Kiwi 17a, the little brother to the 23B. We bought it new and had it for 10 years. Got a good trade price for it as it was in excellent condition. I've heard mostly good from other owners in that same time range.

There was a recall on the microwaves from that era, ask if that work had been done. The microwave company sent a tech out to our house to fix it. Can't recall the brand.

We had one small leak on the joint seam on the front panel below the bed. Only leaked when towing in the rain. Easily fixed it with some white caulking. One small leak on a roof seam in the front where the curved aluminum joins the roof. I caught it early, opened it up and dried it out, resealed with Eternabond.

Look for signs of water damage, water stains in odd places like above the beds in the overhead cabinets, things like that. Even stored inside, the seals around the beds can dry out, so they may need attention or replacement. Check the caulking around the windows and all joints, how does it look? Ask to get on the roof and inspect it for the same. as long as things didn't leak, resealing caulking and Dicor is no big deal.

I wish you well, it's a lot of fun!
  • Although not the exact type or model, my '04 has held up nicely. Starting to need some additional tlc, but no major problems to date. Jaycos are generally considered to be good quality.
  • Do they leak? Yes, any trailer will lead if it is not maintained properly. Being garage kept it probably will have had only small opportunities for leaking, so you need to be extra vigilant and look for the slightest sign of any leak. Beyond that, you need to closely inspect the roof and windows to see if it's time for some new sealant to be applied.
