- Kayteg1Explorer IISmog test on diesels in California is one big BS.
No tailpipe probe, no rolls, just plug OBD, check EGR still exist (if technician is educated enough to know what he is looking for) and punch the "passed" button.
I had it few times when technician open the hood and made a face for a minute to close it again.
I got spoiled with Mercedes where things like TPMS and Bluetooth exist for 10 years already.
I don't care much about integrating phone, what might happen in 5 years with Ford, but 20017 TPMS sure will save lot of back pain on dually.
The 360 degree tow camera looks amazing on the pictures and I am really eager to see it in real life, mounted on camper. $1700 was high gamble on it, but what da heck. - adamisNomad III've followed the 2017 Super Duty rumor mill for a while now and I'm pretty jealous of those that can afford such a grand purchase. The 2017 is a complete ground up design and in my opinion one of the greatest features is the fully boxed frame for significantly greater structural rigidity. The new 6.7L is a monster as well with best in class power and torque but reliability is yet to be seen. No I'm not a paid shill for Ford but to be honest I wouldn't turn down the opportunity if they were offering...
One thing I'm not quite certain on is all of the integrated camera / infotainment system. Yes, it looks amazing at what it can do but ten years from now how much of that stuff is still going to be operating correctly? I really wish manufacturers would standardize their protocols and allow for aftermarket info / entertainment options to work on these newer vehicles.
Lastly, how long are the smog systems lasting in these trucks? I ended up with the 7.3L in part because the smog systems are so less complicated. I liked the newer trucks but I didn't want to get stuck spending thousands of dollars trying to get my truck to pass smog here in California.
Anyway, congrats to buying the new truck! I'll temper my envy by looking forward to purchasing one in about 5 to 7 years when they start hitting the used market. - Kayteg1Explorer IITook longer than expected, but finally NEW new truck is on order.
Here is list of options and pricing for my dream truck.
I am getting it for dealer invoice + $100 what saves me over 3 grands from listed retail. The Ford offers apply at the time of pickup, so to be seen and now wait time is quoted 3 months or even more.

The first dealer I went to said they couldn't order it...next (larger) dealer had no problem taking my order (and money) -- I think it had something to do with dealership quotas...

Kayteg1, there are a few people who had a 6.0 and changed to the 6.7. Why don't you start a thread?
Good point... I will. I have the trusty, crusty 7.3l and am very close to moving to the top of the heap. - jimh406Explorer IIICongrats HMS Beagle, take a picture of it and start a thread when you get the camper on it, so the rest of us can dream. :)
- Kayteg1Explorer IICongratulations on new truck HMS. Did you get good deal? Don't know if forum rules allow dealer recommendation, but could you PM me where did you buy it?
I keep watching the Washington dealers offering $13,500 "January discounts"
January ended, the January discounts passed and now the discounts run to $13,900.
Go figure. - HMS_BeagleExplorer

Would be interesting to hear from somebody who rented 6.7l and measure the performance.
Now thinking about it, my present 6l has poor start below 1600 rpm as well, but once it passes 2000 it really kicks.
Maybe at the time I was spoiled with 7.3 low end torque that could pull a house on idle.
It was your other thread got me looking for a new 6.7L, now sitting in my driveway alongside the 7.3L which will be for sale soon. I haven't driven it much yet, but my initial impression is the 6.7L is vastly stronger from idle to redline. Vastly. At the same time making considerably less fuss. I can clearly hear the stereo, and I can't hear the engine at highway speeds.
Just drove from here to San Jose (empty, 65 mph on cruise). On the way down, a bit of a North wind, arrived with 22.9 mpg shown on the meter. On the return a headwind now, through the Livermore valley struggled to get above 18 but then the wind abated and I arrived back in Napa showing 19.6 mpg. Don't know how accurate the meter is as I am still running on the dealer's tank full. But when a regen kicks in, is does 12.5 mpg for about 20 minutes ;(. - Kayteg1Explorer II

I already have pretty long "Ford truck build" thread that you can find few pages back.
Still working on financing for my dream.
Just to make it clear, I want full 440 HP option.

Can't think about any issue. Drove the rented 6l for about 300 miles, including pulling about 15,000lb over the Sierra. It did tow ok at freeway speeds, just moving from standing point was very poor.
It was pretty low mileage truck as well.

how about owning a 6.0 and a 6.7
Both carried my close to 5K Lance 1055 and towed my 7,000 pound loaded horse trailer up over mountain passes. The 6.0 doesn't hold a candle to the 6.7 under load, slow or fast, flat or steep. it is not a contest.
