Attaching a motorcycle hitch to a TT

I'm looking at buying either the EVO 2360 or 2460

the 2360 has a tongue wgt of 550lbs and 2460 is 750lbs

My dirt bike wgt is 300lbs I was going to weld a carrier to the frame.

Would more or less tongue wgt be better for putting MC on the back of the TT.
  • I have 3 bikes 04 BMW GS ADV, Suzuki Vstrom and Suzuki DRZ 400s which is the one I want to put on the TT
  • I have been looking at doing the same. However I am looking to move to horizontal propane tanks and mounting the bike on the tongue area. Haven't committed yet and looking options. What do you ride?
  • To answer your question; more weight on the tongue is better.

I would have loved to have done this when I had a travel trailer. However, with most travel trailers what you are proposing is simply not practical. The weight on the rear of the trailer will lighten the tongue weight too much. This will cause very noticeable handling issues. Of course, you can counter-balance with other weight up front, but that may cause you to exceed GVW. Additionally, the bike, hanging off the back of the trailer, will cause a lot of bounce that could cause structural damage to the frame rails of the trailer. But, being an optimist, maybe you are within GVW, can balance the trailer properly, reinforce the frame rails, shift the axles back, etc. and have a go at it. Good luck!
  • A better question is what is the "payload" capacity of your TV. Adjusting your loaded tongue weight to the 10%-15% as norm is what you want to shoot for anyway. That is often accomplished by adjusting the cargo in the TT forward or aft of the axles. You may need to add weight forward of the axles to compensate for the Dirt Bike on the back, just stay within the 10-15% range & allowable Payload for the TV
