Bed clearance

How much clearance is needed between the front of camper to front of truck bed. If my rubber bumpers touch the front of bed, I only have .5 inch at the top.

OK that expalins your situation of the top rubbing. Those strips are intended to be used with the Happijac system which has a built in bumper for the plastic strips to rub on. So I would suggest that you place a spacer along the bottom of your bed to stop the TC from being so close to the top of the bed edge or get some of the rubber bumpers like other TC's have. I wonder why the dealer let you do that? Or maybe you didn't go thru a dealer, whatever...I'd get something in there to stop the rubbing. JMHO...others may suggest something else.

The contact area of the plastic strips to the truck bed is sufficient. No wear indicated after 2+ years anyway.
  • If you have 1/2" clearance between the front panel at the top rail and the front of the camper tub, I'd say you have enough room. Assuming that the bumper are compressed all they are going to. A 1" x 6" x 54"-60" board should be enough to give you more clearance if you think you need it.
  • To make my post more clear, I have a .75 horse stall rubber mat, torklif tie downs, fastens. I am talking about the top of bed next to cab, and the camper tub. I will do limited off road and travel very slow when doing it. thanks so much for your replies.
  • Bumpers vary a lot. Some people put a 2 x ? At the front to add a larger gap. My gap is probably about 2 inches.

  • That's 1/2" more than I got. But then, I don't have the rubber bumpers either. My Lance has some plastic strips. Two of those that run vertical and makes full contact with the truck bed at the top. (Top of the truck bed)

In this photo, you can see the strips as they are black. The truck bed runs just below those two vents, which are for the batteries under the step to the cab-over bed.

  • At the top of "WHAT"?
Do you mean at the upper front edge of the bed and the TC?
A picture would be so much help!

If you mean the top edge of the bed and TC tub front, what is your concern? If it doesn't rub, I would suspect you are good to go.

Do you have a heavy rubber bed matt under your TC? It would help with movement issue a little bit. Hope I am on the right track!
