Best tires for a dually

Discount Tire in Vegas one year ago Michelin MS2's for my RAM Dually $1,408 out the door.

25K and they look good. I think I may go for a different tire on the fronts next time. More of a solid outer edge. Mine are starting to step the outer and inner edges both sides. Think I will rotate side to side and see what happens.

Look like new compared to the General POS tires that came on the truck at the same milage.

The ones I have bought are made in Japan. Bridgestone also lists USA. The tires have really come down in price. They're a few dollars more than the Firestone Transforce now.

I would consider the R500 a strictly pavement tire with extremely long wear life.

The toyo HT should work reasonably well in snow. Probably better than the AT's I had. M55's are great in snow! had 4 of them on the rear of my 05 dually, went some 90K miles with them, two sets of HTs on the front. Then sold the truck....

Not a fan of michelin myself, I have yet to get a full set to go before a tread seperation or other issue.

Coopers have been great, so have toyo;s. At work we have some fireston transforce on the sprinter vans. Really quiet! I'm pretty deaf, so I can say, these have NO road noise compared to the contentals that were stock. Those got 70K, also did ok in light snow.

I really don't care what tread type it is but rather how well it holds up. My truck spends 95% of its time on road and we get some snow here in the winter by its not enough to effect my tire choice plus have chains if it gets bad enough and I do have a job that I'm requires to be at work during inclimate weather so I have to drive in the snow.

My truck currently has an all terrain tread but for my application a highway tread will suit. I don't really have the money for Michelin's and I'm looking more into the Toyo's

That said, there are some choices as to tires being specifically made now for the heavier, 3/4 ton and heavier, diesel trucks today.

I've read and seen good reviews for the Toyo Open Country HT Tuff Duty mentioned earlier here.

I've also seen very good reviews for the Nitto CrossTeks HD made for the same weights of trucks.

Not sure but believe both of above are more of a highway tread design, although the CrossTek HD is kind of a combo AT/highway tread.

And then there is mileage warranty. Goodyear says 55,000 miles for their new Wrangler All Terrain Adventure with Kevlar.

I just put a set of Cooper AT 3's on my truck. Also 55,000 mile warranty.

So there are some good choices available.

Have you seen any dry rotting issues out of you Michelin's? I know Michelin tires run a long time and ride great but I've seen them with a lot of dry rot once they get some age on them. I had a tire rep tell me that is was because Michelin uses a natural rubber compound and all would show dry rot after a certain number of years. I don't know if its true or not but I have seen what I would call extreme dry rot on Michelin's that came factory on some vehicles.

I'm only asking because I only put about 10k miles a year on my truck and figure that if they get more time than miles on them I will be in the same shape I'm in now replacing tires with good tread but dry rotted or cracked cases. So it wouldn't really benefit me to pay for the extra cost of a Michelin only to replace them early. Dont get me wrong I'm not taking anything away from Michelin tires I know they have a good product and you get what you pay for with anything

The breakdown is 70K per set 140K total. My truck came with Michelin's already on it. I was always too cheap to spring for Michelin's.However I am now a believer. Prior to my last 2 sets of Michelin's I never got anywhere near 70K. At 3 years old tires show no signs of dry rot.

Michelins or Bridgestones are my preference. Although I have had good success with a set of Coopers on one old truck.
