Bottom fell off my door... info on fixing

94 prowler, has dual doors, this is the rear door, Ive known about for about the last year that it had some rot inside, the screen door holder thing right under the door latch, its screws fell out last year...

So I need to rebuild the whole door, any tips on what size wood it takes? maybe a link to an article on someone doing it before? Ive never opened up an RV door before, but Im very mechanically inclined.

I have a picture, but I dont see a way to upload it here.

Thanks
  • I had to rebuild one of mine. I found that not all the door was woodframed. The vertical piece at the latch was metal. I simply cut away the rotten section. Then I cut down a piece of hardwood and screwed it in. The door itself is very light and not sturdy at all, not much is weight bearing.
  • Thanks, Im figuring on having to do whatever frame is inside of it, sounds like just opening it up and seeing whats in there is the only way to go.
  • Do check the RV junkyards perhaps. It's parts like that that might survive a total loss in a collision.
  • they can be rebuilt. our guys have taken doors completely apart and rebuilt them many times for customers
  • I've been holding my door together with L brackets and a cross brace. It may not be the correct way to do it but, it's all hidden and it's been keeping me camping for years.
