Camper sits higher at front in box?

I recently sold my trailer and bought a 2007 2500HD Crew Cab long box and a Security Timberline 10c camper. When I loaded the camper and lowered into the bed the rear of the TC started to sit on the bed rails. I had to take some 2x6x8' boards and screwed a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood to them to raise the TC up. Now the TC is about an inch off the rear bed rail but it's about 4" off the bed rails at the front. Is this in the design of the TC to sit higher in the front or does Chevrolet have higher bed rails at the rear in there trucks?

Even 2" seems like an awful lot.

Which style 2007 is it? Classic (GMT-800) or new (GMT-900).

My 2002 is the GMT800, same as a classic would be, and the bed rails are perfectly parallel to the camper wings.

    It's the new body style.....

  • After remeasuring I has 1" at back and 3" at back, so 2 inches. I am gonna find some time and pull camper off truck and check the bottom of camper and measure bed rails.
I have always owned Fords so this is my first Chevrolet. I am currently using the camper at a remote work camp and seems to be fine. Once back home will pull TC of and see if there is a bow where the water tank is in the basement. Thanks for the help.
  • I can understand some difference but the OP has said he has 3" (1"f and 4"r )difference between front and rear . It might be time to check the camper wing height front and rear . Something doesn't seem right .
  • Measure your bed rails. At least on the Dodge/Ram, the rear bed rail is about 1/4" higher in the back than at the front.
  • After measuring, I think you will discover the bed rails are a different height front and rear. To my knowledge no TCs are design that way. It is very common to elevate the TC for clearance.

  • I have '99 f250, and a Lance squire lite 165. I noticed the same thing the camper seems to sit just alittle higher in the front. My SIL has a '01 f350 dually and his lance camper sits just alittle high in the front also.
Not sure why yet, but is one of the many things I have to figure out.
  • Must be design of the camper.

On my brother's 08 GM truck, the camper he has does not have an uneven gap like yours, which means the truck is not the issue.
  • My 2002 F250 and 2000 Lance 1010 were the same way. The camper was about 1" higher in the front. If I recall it was my camper design. You could lay a board across your rails and measure the depth of your bed to see the difference from front to rear.
I have to ask, the camper is not hung up anywhere is it, keeping it from coming down in the front? Do you have a huge gap between the cab and bed overhang?
