Cheap Microwave

I was looking thru the Target ad this weekend and came across a microwave for $45. It was one of those used by students at college but I was wondering if it would take the bounching of a TC? Does an RV require a special microwave or would this work? If it lasts a couple years. I can just buy a new one to at this price.

Well, I went to Target to pick up the $45 microwave and of course they were out. But they actually had another one for $38! So I picked one of them up and will try and find the best spot for it. Thanks for all the answers and advice. You folks are the BEST!!!

We have a small, cheap, mechanical timer MW we got from Wmart years ago.
Still works like a champ.

Here's how I mounted it. I removed the lid and mounted the lid under the cabinet. I had to add a cross member to the frame of the cabinet for the screws holding the lid to the bottom of the cabinet.
It is a small MW and is 700watts. A bigger MW may weigh too much.

The newer Inverter technology Microwaves are at least 15lbs lighter. That's what I would get if this one breaks. Currently the small package MW's do not have the inverter tech.

when our RV microwave died the other year, we went to walmart bought one that was the closest size, and put it in. it works great when we are plugged in to power. it does not like running off the generator. i have never worried about the turn-table plate inside bouncing around. but then overall with our ride I don't worry about too much bouncing around that is in the front or center of the rig, only the tail end gets some good bounces. We ride with a Pampered Chef pizza stone in the over and it is fine also.

I bought a MW fro $30 at Walmart over 6 years ago. It's been in my construction trailer for making lunch and it now in my TC. It still works great after all these years and miles.

How much "bouncing" do you do in your RV?
How much "bouncing" did the appliance have in transport from China to your RV?

There is not that much bouncing as the weight of the camper minimizes travel unless you hit a large hole or bride expansion joint area. The microwaves for RV use are standard microwaves that are mounted with a front grill so they will not bounce but are going to fail quicker as they are cheaper units inside but with a high price tag.

I go by the customer reviews on Amazon or at Home Depot. Easy enough to fill the gap between the microwave and the top of the cabinet while traveling to keep it from moving and we do that anyway as space in the kitche is at a premium.

Go for it,I bought a 1000 watt unit about 13 years ago and it works fine.
it lives under the table on the floor and when I need it I just put it on the shelf.

The one I have is a $35 Emerson Radio brand 0.7 cubic foot, 750 watt microwave. Made a couple of custom under cabinet mounts and stuck it in place.

It's worked good since 2008, with only one time where it shut down because of altitude. After it sat and cooled a while, it started working just like before.

I used one of those for 10 years in a TT, it was fine.
RV models are usually front vented . You need room for air circulation.
Other than that, the bouncing is not all that bad where it will effect the units workings .
Just make sure its in a secured cabinet and not one thats screwed to the ceiling where it will rip down .
I have seen people with add on tv's and microwaves installed in hanging clothes closets and converted pantries. Their mods ended up smashed on the floor.

I use one of those when I am camping off the power grid... Doesn't take much power to operate it from my inverter compared to the big one. Mine is one that has all the manual twist knobs etc.. White faced...

It takes a beating back in the woods and still works fine...

Its was $35-$45 also...
