Converting a enclosed trailer to a RV TT

Hey everyone, hope all are well and healthy. Maybe asked before but, has anyone converted a 7x16 enclosed trailer to an RV TT.? I have seen a few ideas online as I’m in the fact gathering phase. We recently sold our large fifth wheel, just got tired of dragging around 35 feet and we can keep a much smaller camper at our house. So hence I may just build one. I own a 7x16 very well build enclosed trailer so we have that so far. Anyway if anyone has done it please post up some good info, even the good and the bad. Theirs just 3 of us so my daughter would be helping out build this as well. Yes I do have experience in construction and all types of stuff, so a project like this would be still a challenge but I look forward to it. Thanks!

    Just be sure that the project doesn't get so involved that you never get to use it as an RV. If you are looking for productive low paying work try volunteering for the local Habitat for Humanity Chapter, sell the 5er and buy a used something smaller.

    I would not recommend it. Financially, it doe not make much sense. That trailer is worth $3-4k. A 16' TT costs under $15k. You will likely spend at least 8k on materials to update, plus your time.

    People do it. If you a DIY for home repairs and remodeling, sure. But I agree with Dick_B: all that takes time that you could just be enjoying at a campsite or open land.

    Some private campgrounds will not allow conversions. May not be an issue for you, but wanted you to be aware of this.

    Lots of folks have made upgrades to utility trailers for camping. It just depends on how RV like you want it to be.

    I think if you have the time and talent, it is a great idea.
    I have built three houses from the ground up, including foundations, framing, roofing, plumbing, wiring, and all the indoor cabinets, etc and because of that, I am on easy street today.
    I started by redoing an old mansion that was in disrepair that I got for a song from the bank and went from there.
    I did it all part time while I held a full time day job.
    I can visualize the fun I would have in the design and building what you are describing.
    If you have the bucks, I say go for it, if you have to borrow any money, I say don't since you will just go into debt.

    On web site " cheap RV living " there are many , many people that have done that , most for boondocking on BLM land in the west . Large flat roofs for solar , strong frames . If you buy new you can order with an RV side door , barn doors or drop ramp . I see that you are in Florida , there are several companies in Fitzgerald ,Georgia that make some nice ones , Google Fitzgerald Ga trailer sales and step back , there will many !

    If you want a trailer with some bunks and a couple basic amenities, it’s maybe worth it. Maybe.
    If you want a full featured trailer, it’s really an act of financial futility. And it won’t be worth squat if you decide to sell. No one wants someone else’s “project .”

    I have done a couple and it was a lot of fun. Like someone said though, don't put $10k and hundreds of hours into it expecting any return. I kept mine simple. Air conditioner, porta potti, 12 volt refr, bed, outdoor shower, and used the rear ramp door as a mini deck.

    If you just enjoy the project...go for it.

    If you have any allusion that it will somehow save money, just go fine a 16-20ft travel trailer for $2-4k. If you shop around it will be in good condition and save you a whole lot of time and money.
