Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012

My daughter was getting a little warm in her bunk during our last camping trip, so I decided to put her a fan in to keep the air flowing.

I had been wanting to add a 12-volt fan to the main living area anyway, so I decided to tackle both jobs today. A trip to Wal-Mart for two fans($8.48 each) and we're halfway there.

She picked the spot, and I got to work -



I picked up the power from her overhead light. All I have left is to install a short piece of wire cover and I'm done -



I added one in the main area -



I dropped by Lowe's and found this cool soap dispenser. I also just installed these Pop-a-Toothbrush holders -



I added a sopa dispenser to the kitchen area as well. I also installed a Pop-a-Napkin under the radio -



Here's an easy mod. I found this over the door towel rack at Walmart and it works great -

I have a question to see if anybody has done a mod that I am thinking of doing. We have a Rockwood 8314ss 33' TT. The front bedroom has the (RV size) queen island bed. I am thinking of removing the drawers and overhead on one side, modify the platform and put a residential size queen bed in cross ways. So instead of the head of the bed being at the front of the trailer, it would be turned so that the head is on one side.

It appears that the cabinetry was put in after the base floor, walls and ceiling was put in and so I believe I should be able to (cleanly) remove the cabinetry I need to remove and modify the existing pedestal.

Any insight from those of you in the industry and/or those that have done this would be greatly appreciated! I am also going to contact Forest River to see if they will be willing to shine some light on the build process so I can reverse engineer some of what they have done.

Here's the layout of our trailer and a couple photos. The head would be opposite the entry door and the mattress side would be up against the front. I would leave the overhead and drawers near the door.

I did get it new on ebay, but I waited and got it for $15.03.

Finished these this weekend.

Wanted a bumper mounted box for the slinkies and accessories



Mounted the blue tote to the frame for traveling. Still need to cut off the excess strapping.

I attached Anderson power connectors to my 40 amp Xantrex charger and trailer, so the few times a year I dry camp I can easily attach and quick charge my 6 volts.

The manual states that you should keep the generator dry. I have a clamp-on umbrella that attaches to the front rail of the truck box.

Agreed on the lack of lights, I guess they have to cut corners to keep the cost down. Eventually I plan to add some hard wire lights but that's for another project.:)

I just had this made up to secure my Honda generator.
It is aluminum diamondplate with an aluminum bottom tray. Each side has a built-in lock. *** Notice the new Bedsaver ***

(above post, peg board) Thats a great idea! Think I'll be borrowing that idea...just alittle stunned Jayco had no lights installed in that area....my Salem has two....one on each side.

I was having trouble finding a way to organize the water hose, extension cords and such. So this is what I did.

I used a stud finder to locate the wood studs in the front wall. As you can see in the picture I attached 1 x 2 pine strips with #6 x 1 inch screws



Here's another view without the clutter


I then used some #6 by 1 1/4 inch screws to mount the pegboard



I added Pegboard to the rear side of the hatch as well



Finally a battery powered light that my neighbor gave me


I used the pine spacers for two reasons.
First you can't put a peg board hook in unless you have space in the rear.

Second, I was able to attach to more solidly to points in the trailer.

I realize that a picture of stuff actually hung on the pegboard would be helpful. But, for the life of me I couldn't find any. I'll see if I can spin by storage later today and snap a few.

For those doing the Lexan door mod, Home Depot no longer will cut Lexan for you. Lowes still cuts the Lexan for free.
