Cracked Vinyl Floor. what to replace it with.

Pretty much whatever you want to. Lots of folks put in laminate wood flooring with good results. Just bee sue you have clearance for a slide, if you have one.

Easy to replace. Just cut out the old floor around the perimeter. Use the pieces as a pattern for the new sheet goods. Lay the new piece down and install 1/4 round around the edges to hold it in place. No glue...Done..

One of the reasons, the flooring cracks, is the walls and cabinets were built on top of it. There is no room for expansion and contraction. Severe cold weather, causes the flooring to contract to a point where there is no more give.

Any flooring you install, will have more flexibility than the original.

Some folks install laminate. Some install carpet, some install new vinyl (cut around walls and cabinets). Either vinyl or laminate, will require some type of molding to trim around the edges.

i never even thought about using the existing old flooring as a template... genius! I was wondering how I would make a template once I pulled the old flooring out HAHA. I feel so dumb right now.

I ended up replacing the floor this weekend myself after getting a ridiculous 1850 dollar quote from the local dealership. I am into this for 200 bucks and 2 afternoons. All that is left is some trim and it wil be better than new. Looks WAY nicer with this compared to the old vinyl. really glad the old stuff was cracked so it forced me to do this. The product is called "Allure". It is a 36"x6" vinyl tile that has offset adhesive strips and sticks to itself(no gluing required) and went in like a dream. I'm still trying to figure out a better option for around the toilet, its tough to score and snap
a radius. Any questions I'll be happy to answer them...

Any vinyl flooring is easier to cut when heated. You don't want to heat it so much that it expands in dimension. I used to install a pretty fair amount of vinyl but it is losing favor to other materials.

This is the way I would template a vinyl installation: Place red rosin paper on floor just inside any walls and protrusions around floor. Tape it down so it doesn't move. I usually cut it with a 1/2"- 1" space away from the wall, an accurate cut isn't needed. Using a compass with pencil, scribe around the wall and other surfaces placing a line 2" inward from the wall. Pull up the paper and tape onto new sheet goods. Using the same compass with the identical 2" spacing, scribe a line onto the vinyl. This should produce an accurate cut with no need for any trim.

It's also possible to trim the sheet in place by rough cutting and leaving an inch or two of extra material. The vinyl is then folded accurately at the wall-> floor joint with a stair tool and cut while in place. Trimming is a skill developed by doing a few installations.

$1850.00 quote...a guy should go into business doing trailer floors. Do it for 1/2 that and still make too much $$ Looks great!. If the bathroom floor is good, just transition from the old to the new at the doorway. I did that on one and it looked fine.
