Day 22: Changing Plans

We are currently in Quebec. Beautiful City! We went from Merrickville to Kingston to Attowa to Montreal to Quebec. All awesome!!! The weather allowed us to ride our bikes all around Montreal. Great city for biking!!! In each place we got out the AAA book and trip advisor and hit all of the top attractions and were not disappointed at all. I will say that I don't understand contemporary art at all. :@:h:h:h

We were planning on heading to Prince Edward Island and then to Nova Scotia but we have changed our minds. The weather has been cold, wet and windy. We are a bit too early in the season and some of the activities and sites we wanted to enjoy aren't open yet. It seems the season here is mid June to mid September.

So, we are headed to Bangor Maine. Weather in the 70s bright sunshine. The East coast of the USA is pretty awesome! We will come back to PEI and Nova Scotia another time. We want to do Newfoundland and Iceland in the coming years so we will go by route of Nova Scotia.

We re 22 days and 3000 miles into our trip. It has been awesome!!! This is the half way point and we have every intention of the second half continuing to be even awesommer!!! :B

    I'm from Maine. The only time you can expect "summer" is July and August! May and June are rainy, buggy and damp-- every year! That is it! Maybe 2 weeks in Sept then gets very cold...Same goes for Nova Scotia.... so those of you planning a trip in May or June, don't waste your time and $ You will not enjoy it!

    Schoodic Woods Campground is across Frenchman's Bay (north) from Acadia NP. It just opened last Labor Day. It was still pretty shiny when we were there. If you go there you will pass Ruth and Wimpy's (the big red lobster). Great local restaurant. Also close to the campground is the US Bells foundry. http://www.usbells.com/ great work, pleasant folks. Their bells have wonderful tones.
    There are several logging museums in Maine also. http://www.maineforestandloggingmuseum.org/ (in Bradley) These folks have restored a Lombard Log Hauler and run it occasionally. It's a rare piece of Maine history.
    Rangeley Lake State Park, in northwest, ME is a beautiful area, if you get near there. There are great views on a scenic drive as you head south from the state park area.

    Give yourself at least 1 month to tour Newfoundland. We found that was barely enough time. Lots to see and do. But not too early. We did June 8 to July 8 last year and it was cool, wet and windy...like Newfoundland is supposed to be.

    Bring clothing for spring, summer and fall and good rain gear. You can't sit in your camper waiting for nice weather or you'd not see much.

    I would second the recommendation of the trip to the top of Mt. Bat tie and all of the other great things in and around Camden. The Owls Head lighthouse outside of Rockland is nice as well.

    22 days is really good. I've usually started changing the plan on day 2 or day 3, and after a week it is a radically differnt trip.

    Acadia National Park.. beautiful campground with huge wooded sites W & E . no site sewers. but dump station.. Drive up the Mt. Battie road to the top of the mountain, spend an afternoon in nearby Camden admiring the schooner fleet, take a 2 hr sail on one of them, enjoy the fresh seafood on the docks with an unbelievable view of this quaint harbor!
