Check out Camden Hills State park in Camden on your way to
Acadia National Park.. beautiful campground with huge wooded sites W & E . no site sewers. but dump station.. Drive up the Mt. Battie road to the top of the mountain, spend an afternoon in nearby Camden admiring the schooner fleet, take a 2 hr sail on one of them, enjoy the fresh seafood on the docks with an unbelievable view of this quaint harbor!
And if you'd rather have a sewer/water hookup, we had a good experience at Megunticook Campground in Rock port last summer. http://megunticookcampgrounds.com
I would second the recommendation of the trip to the top of Mt. Bat tie and all of the other great things in and around Camden. The Owls Head lighthouse outside of Rockland is nice as well.
