Ok folks, 8.1 and sc are two different animals, as are jaraxle and bluenote!
In the end, what rig we use, is what works best for me vs you vs whomever! Which motor is the same way, be it a BB or SB gas vs a diesel.
If I did not need a pickup for work, I would have had a van as 8.1 did to haul my family with me TT around. But, why have two rigs, when one will do the job, and be cheaper in the end!
As some have said and quoted, will a BB gas and TD or for that matter a SB gas move a 10-12K trailer? yes they all will move a trailer of that size. I will not go into the how fast, up a what % grade, at what elevation etc. As which will do better, go faster etc has been well proven, played out etc by myself, others, and from tests here and there and everywhere.
For all of us, it will cone down to dollars and cents, as to which one will be best for us. I use a TD for my 1 ton dually for work etc, at 25K miles a yr, it is cheaper to run, even with the flip in diesel cost vs when this thread was started. On the other hand, I also have a SB gas rig, that gets driven 5-7000 miles a yr, it will pull my 12K equipment trailer just fine. No it is not as fast etc. But it will get the job done if one of the other rigs breaks down on the side of the freeway as my dumptruck did.
In the end, it really does not matter what rig you have, as long as it works for YOU! if it does not, then it is the wrong rig! pure plain and simple.
I do admit, that some folks way of supporting there why and where for, gotta wonder about there mentality!
