Driving to Canada from South Florida...

Hey Pete, I just traveled from Fl. to the Maritimes(on my way back now). I agree that unless you have a particular interest in the area you should bypass I-95 north of Richmond, it's a little longer but definitely forth it. As far as crossing into Canada, that was an undesirable experience, we crossed at Calais and were surprised when they searched our truck and rv extensively, slide rooms out, open drawers and compartments etc., they even questioned and tested my container of baby aspirin thinking that it was some kind of illegal drug.
The maritimes are expensive and the 15% tax doesn't help. Diesel was about $5 per gal. Had no trouble getting into CGs in May/June, however it will be considerably busier now that school is out.

Mooring: when we drive the I95, we know that there are serous issues (there is a very large road project currently going on) going through Richmond, VA. Then, you approach DC. We usually take the 495 (east) beltway and go around the city (usually after 8 PM or 11 AM on this stretch), then we take the *295* (not the I95) to the *895* Harbor Tunnel Throughway (we've done this recently WITH TC and propane off) to the I95. Then, we take the 78 around all the spaghetti of Joisey/NY (however, you will be going into Joisey, so scratch that one).

Sadly we are on a time crunch. I own my own business so its not easy to get away.

I spent alot of time in NH and Maine each summer with my Q tips family.

If you have time slide off the 95 to us 64 east in nc. that will take you over to mateo and nags head. take the 158 north thru to us 13 norfolk. stay on that thru to wilmington del. hop onto the 95 to cross at delaware memorial bridge. take 40 east to 88 north along the jersey coast. this route will add about a extra day and a half but it worth it since there is so much stuff to see and do. i run this route about twice a year.

I agree with straight through.

Did the trip from northern N.H. to Palm Coast and back in February 2012.

Right through the tunnels without even thinking about propane. I didn't see any of those $$$ diesel pushers pulled over to twist some valves.

One bit of highway advice- I was born and raised in NYC. The 6-7 miles of roadway called the "Cross Bronx Expressway" (I-95 from the George Washington Bridge eastward) is one of the worst stretches of pavement in the east. And the truck traffic is heavy in a very crowded space, not to mention slightly insane auto drivers.

Think about crossing the Hudson not on the GW but further north at the Tappan Zee or I-84.

Just did that trip in March...Drove right thru the tunnel....never stopped. Stayed at visitors center along 95 and camped at a state park in Goergia ..had a grea time. Fuel was cheap and plenty to eat... Took about 10 gallons was water in the tank for the basics. Any questions just ask. :C

I-95 is the only way to go if you are driving straight through. It's the most direct and fastest route. There is always traffic going from Richmond, VA. to DC.
Then getting around the beltway in DC is slow at any time day or night. The fastest way to get through and out of Baltimore is with the harbor tunnel. But you will need to check about the propane issue going through the tunnel. Once you get on the Jersey turnpike it will take you right to your RV park without going through any more tunnels. The only tunnel in you whole trip is the one in Baltimore. If you can't use the tunnel in Baltimore there is a bridge you can use but it's slower longer route.
To see the 9/11 memorial, just jump on a ferry boat from your RV park and in a few minutes you will cross the Hudson River and you will in Manhattan, NYC right near the 9/11 memorial.
