Dual Batteries with shut off

I am getting ready to add dual batteries to the new camper. I know how to hook up the batteries. I want to add a battery disconnect switch. Is the hook up for this different with dual batteries as opposed to 1 battery, or does it hook up the same? Anyone done this or have pics? Thanks.
  • If you want the batteries to be disconnected from load, same. If you want them to be disconnected from the load AND each other, different.

    Not necessarily.

It depends on whether it will be 2 12V's in parallel OR 2 6V's in series.

But the basic battery disconnect switch is put in one of the main cables LEAVING the battery array. Makes little difference whether you disc. the + or - main cable.

Your choice - pick whatever suits you best. ;)

  • Yep, get a marine 2 battery switch. Should have a wiring diagram in the package.

Allows you to run on 1, 2 or both or disconnect both.

    Edit:
    This assumes 2 - 12V batteries.

If you are going 2 - 6v batteries, you want a simple on-off switch to disconnect the whole bank from the 12v system or you may wind up feeding 6v to the RV 12v system. You could put a disconnect between the 6v batteries but it's not typically done and you would have to be careful not to accidentally feed 6v to the RV 12v system.
