exhaust tip

I have one on my truck. It is turned down and slightly back. I don't get any soot on the camper but do get some on the Torklift mount on that side. Don't remember if it helped after putting it on or not. It's been on 7 years.

Have one that curves down and out and it works great.

Works well on my smoke machine. Prior to it, the exhaust directly baked the rear torklift mount. Now there’s zero soot on it.

Non issue in my experience with Duramax 8ft box and 10.4 Bigfoot hanging over. DPF takes care of soot and megaphone takes care of heat. I towed a trailer for 7 years with 09 Duramax and Rocktamer mud flap. I cut a hole in flap same dia as megaphone & covered with aluminum mesh. Was worried about heat but never ever saw any evidence of heating and never any soot on the mesh or flap.

I have just to keep soot off our TT but with your newer truck and it's regens, I don't know that you can install a turn down on the end.

Camping World at least used to sell stainless steel curved tips.
I installed them on old Detroit and also on my F450 that converted to dump bed had exhaust before rear axle.
Being SS they also add to cosmetics.

GM Duramax exaust tip megaphone is an engineered venturi to cool exhaust gasses during regen cycle. DONT monkey with it! Absolutely no need to. I ran diesel engine tugboats for 40 years and sure do know what diesel exhaust smells like, and have dealt with dirty exhaust soot everywhere. These new diesel engines with DPF are a different animal altogether. No black smoke, no soot, and not even a diesel smell from the exhaust unless people screw around chipping them.

Interesting.... buddy is a Diesel tech for Ford, and he was saying something down the same lines..... he said the computer ( lack of better word) in the truck is designed to have that megaphone run uninterrupted....

Even inside my exhaust pipe is clean on my 2015 Cummins, no need on mine

The exhaust on my 2004 dually in the signature below turns the back of the fender black if I'm working the truck hard so I installed one of the curved turn-down tips. But I very quickly discovered when in really rough terrain (wood cutting, etc.) that exhaust tip hangs down really low and affects clearance. And one day when backing into a high curb that exhaust tip was the first to hit. Luckily I was barely moving, so no damage. At least on mine, that turned-down tip hangs only about 6" above the ground. One of my neighbors who has a similar Dodge had the same problem and his solution was to cut off the down-pointing section of the pipe. That maintains the needed clearance but still directs the exhaust gases downward instead of to the side.
