flood lights?

After a couple of aggravating "in the dark" set-ups, it seems to me that manufacturers would have some sort of area lights on the top corners of the rigs. But certainly NOT to be left on to annoy fellow campers.

Anyone have this or have tried to install?
  • There are lots of 12 volt agricultural utility lights you can pick up at an auto parts like Napa. I installed one in front of the rear bumper pointing down on each side. Ran its own power line up to the battery box and mounted the light switch on the battery box lid with an in line fuse. Works good! And displays along the ground in a wide pattern. Backed in to a site after dark at the Gulf National Seashore Campground. Kind of on the black side of dark and if it wasn't for a Class A guy that offered to turn on his landing lights we may have still been there the next morning backing in. The lights went on when we got home from that trip.

LOL, colorful new languages no doubt
  • Both of my trailers have lights on the rear which does me no good because I can't see behind the trailer anyhow.

Best trick I discovered is to use shop towels to cover the tow vehicle tail lights. The reflection on the front of trailer blinds me from seeing anything past the front of the trailer.

If I was to install additional lights they would be under the front of the trailer pointing rearward at an outward angle. I need to see where the tires are tracking, my spotter sees behind the trailer.

  • after posting, I found an neat little solar job that could be modified to fit in the awning track. only problem is no switch to turn off.

    solar light
    still looking...
  • Ours came with a rear light for backing and hooking up utilities, a porch light, and a front scare light. I think we are pretty well covered.

Sounds like a nice DIY project...If Manufacturers did EVERYTHING we wanted them to do we would never be able afford RVs
  • Last two trailers had 'scare lights' or floodlights that came with the trailer. Great to turn on when backing in at night or cleaning up in the dark. Otherwise they are off. Far too intrusive.
  • Lots of trailers/5th wheels have 'scare' lights......large round lights on both sides of rig.

Mine has a porch light above entry door and another on roadside above utility area.
Also has a light under over hang to light up that area.

Biggest problem to install additional outside lighting is pulling wiring to the area.

Lots of battery operated outside use lights in aftermarket.

OR you could jumper trailer pigtail (jumper wire between positions at 11:00 o'clock & 1:00 o'clock) to have trailer running lights on for some lighting.
