- Interesting..... now the specs, and the engine, have disappeared from the Chevy website in the area where you select the option package and cab configuration.
It was there on Thursday and Friday, now it's gone.
It's still there on the GMC website - ib516Explorer II

It has been done (a long time ago!) In Australia
Putting an inline six in sideways might be an issue in sedans.
Since the subject line had: "GM inline 6 diesel", I thought we were talking about that engine. I should have worded it in a bulletproof manner and restated the particular engine that is the subject. :S - VernDieselExplorerCurrently you can still get the Cruz 2017 & through 19 with the 1.6 diesel. My Son has a 17 with 140k the 9 speed auto and averages 50 mpg. Loves this car. Historically When GM gets it right they keep it a secret then stop making them. Now bring on the 3.0! Is 277HP 460 TQ official?
- I'm still waiting to see the towing specs on the Duramax 3.0

GM offered the Cruise sedan in a Diesel version, don't think it sold very well. If I were to get a Diesel car I would probably go Mercedes Benz.
Now GM could resurrect a little interest in Sedans. Mid and full size sedans with a fuel sipping smooth as silk inline baby diesel.
Definitely impressive.
Wish my company truck had one. I'd love 25mpg vs 15. - stsmarkExplorerMy Volvo XC70 has a sweet transverse 3.0 liter inline six. Dohc and aft side turbo so it can be done.

The Impala has the 3.6 liter DOHC V6 and the Buick the great old 3.8 liter 90 degree Buick V6. Both great cars and I agree...a inline diesel turbo six would be a great addition.

You're probably right. Chevy did have a great inline, gas DOHC six available in the TrailBlazer in the early 2000's. It was an award winning design, efficient , made good HP/Torque and was durable. Our son had a 2008 Chevy Colorado with the 5 cylinder version of this engine, racked up a lot of miles with no complaints. But then GM dropped it .
The five cylinder really didn't work out all that well. The MPG, power and smoothness really didn't offer any gains over a 6 cylinder as I understand it. I never owned one but that is what I understand to be true. - LessmoreExplorer II

Understand the why most al EV's like battery based platforms (in/on the belly), but that has a host of issues that is more important than lowering the CG. Plus by being on the belly, it has to be armor plate protected
If me, I'd toss the ICE, tranny and fuel tank
Replace the ICE with two electric motors, mounted low in the engine bay. NO differential needed if two motors (one for each wheel/tire).
The tranny tunnel and the rest of engine bay could become areas for batteries/AC/controller/radiator/etc
The fuel tank would become another battery mounting area, but this one easily removable and replaced at fueling stations where the standardized sizing of that battery pack would be replaced by a fully charged battery pack. Maybe by a robot and the stuff needed to design that is pretty much off the shelf
Now the existing platform and bodies would from existing stable of car models
But, that is too sane and easy for these folks...
