- VanishedExplorerMy 6.2l GMC is averaging about 22mpg on the highway.. ;)
- katoom400Explorerok, thanks for the info, considering upgrading to a new 2500, was going to put GM back on the table if they came up with something new....right now its between the 6.2 ford and the 6.4 Ram.
- APTExplorer6.2L is for the half tons. Aluminum block. The HDs still have the 6.0L iron block/AL heads and far less power. Maybe 2016 power will be improved. The 6.0L is ok on power and very durable/inexpensive to maintain, but had lowest power output for gas engines since, well, almost introduction in late 90s/early 2000s.
- katoom400ExplorerI just went on chevy's site, I don't see the 6.2DI as an option for the 2500, and I missing something?

The new GM trucks are 600 lbs. lighter thanks to greater use of aluminum. Fuel is sent to fewer cylinders when the load is light on the engine. The trucks have 8-speed transmission with more overdrive gears and smaller gaps with the lower underdrive gears.
What surprises me is how infrequently the manufacturers of trucks and SUV's go for improving fuel economy. For the past 20 years the horsepower and 0-60 times have been the selling points to buyers. The people who cared about MPG bought a 45 MPG Prius or a 30 MPH Subaru Forester. I took a middle approach and have a 45 MPG Prius and a 15 MPG diesel truck. Guess which one I drive 80% of the time.
I disagree with almost all of your post. The 2014 GM half tons weight about 250 pounds less than a similarly equipped 2013 model. Perhaps you are confusing Ford and GM? The 2015 F-150 crew cab weighs about 700 pounds less than an equivalent 2014 model. Only Ram offers an 8-spd transmission in 2015 models, but GM will have an 8-spd/6.2L "in 2015" which I believe means a 2016 model as the early 2015 pickup and SUVs all have 6-spds.
All vehicle manufacturers have been improving the efficiency of their engines (and transmission). Specific output (hp and torque per liters of displacement) has been improved, but so has fuel efficiency. Better combustion benefits power and efficiency. - ksssExplorer

It almost seems to me the new 6.2 gets near the mileage of the 4.3 6cyl. I would love to have a high country with one!!
And the 6.2 will be an add at trade in time instead of a deduct like the V-6 - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerIt almost seems to me the new 6.2 gets near the mileage of the 4.3 6cyl. I would love to have a high country with one!!

You know you're completely wrong about that......
And pretty much the rest of the post is wrong as well. Compare new truck mileage ratings to the old rating (factoring in the change in rating system) and full size truck are more powerful, faster, and get about 20% better mileage.
And DI makes NO DIFFERENCE with regards to engine braking, ugh. - rocketreshardExplorerI bought a 2014 Chevy 6.2 max tow LTZ 3.73 gears.. Ordered it before miliage ratings were out.. Love this engine. 415 hp.. A real beast. I am comparing it to my traded in 2007 Avalanche with 3.73 gears and 5.3 engine. A world of difference.. I tow a 25ft TT and used the Avalanche for 3 years of towing. Used to really beat the hell out of it on grades.. This 6.2 Eco is amazing compqared to the Avalanche..
The real shock was the gas mileage. I get 20, 22 driving 55 60 with no TT.. Around town, I get 16 17 MPG.. Pulling I used to get at best wit the Avalanche 10, with a tail . 7, 8 was the norm. With the new 6.2, I get 10 at the worst, and with the wind in my favor 12.5... A couple times 13.. Now i always try to avoid all the expressways when I RV...... Like to see the local stuff you miss when you travel the E-ways.
This new 6.2 is a great motor. I had a Superchip FlashPac Tuner, Magnaflow Exhaust, KN cold air intake in the Avalanche. I don't need any of this for this motor... - nevadanickExplorerMy new Yukon has grade braking and it works too well when empty. I didn't buy it to tow but may tow an enclosed trlr someday and I will let you know.
