Grand Cherokee
Hi all,
I'm new here. I am sure there are several post on the topic but none have answered my question. I own a 2017 Grand Cherokee overland with class 4 towing hitch. Its the V6 24Valve pentastar engine. I originally was not going to be towing anything more than some snowmobiles and small utility trailers for house stuff when I got it. Its a huge improvement over the previous vehicle. However, I have a new job that is out of town part of the time and instead of getting a horrible studio apartment in a **** neighborhood, I thought about getting a travel trailer instead. I can then use it for camping as well. The one I am looking at is the Nash 17k. with about 4300# dry weight. I'll mostly be using this for the time at work and will only have to move it about 50 miles each way a couple of times a week. I live in central Oregon and the trailer will be stored with family in the valley where the job is so it only has to be towed about an hour away in relatively flat area. On occasion, I would like to take it on vacations once or twice a year to the coast or other places but probably not more than 500 miles.
We pack pretty light, but I am wondering if this is still too much for the Grand Cherokee? Of course the dealers for the Cherokee and the trailer are super positive it can do it, but I don't trust sales people. I know the best bet would be to buy a truck, but honestly, the everyday handling of the truck is not ideal for where I live (snow and Ice). I know lots will argue this point, but I will take my SUV over a truck any day in ice and snow and thats based on lots of experience. Ive pulled many trucks out of snow banks with my SUVs and good tires. On the flip side, Im sure there have been plenty of folks with trucks that have done the same.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.
Kevin
