- 69_AvionExplorerRemember, putting grease where it was never intended to be will do nothing but attract dirt.
- SprinklerManExplorerI had a 1956 rolls royce , the rear springs had a leather case with straps covering the springs . In the shop manual it told how to lubricate the rear leaf springs . All the bushings and ball joints on the front suspension had copper lines running to them , there was an oil can under the hood with a pump to oil the front suspension . It was a pretty neat set up
- Chuck_thehammerExplorerlight weight oil if stuff is almost new.
for older and rusty.. coat springs and shackles with axle grease..
and cover with plastic wrap, then tape with duck tape.. after a couple of hundred miles remove tape and wrap and let weather remove the rest...
this is also from the 50's... and still works. - JJBIRISHExplorerIf you have wet bolts and brass bushings they are made to be greased… otherwise grease will be more harmful than good… the suspension parts used today are well worn after just a few thousand miles…
whoever said using suspension from the 50’s couldn’t get worse never thought those 50’s style parts would be Chinese made… - ProudcanuckExplorerMy trailer has the Dexter EZ flex suspension but it seems like the leaf springs are squeaky. As I'm driving it's become quite noisy - always was noiser than others when driving around the CG but now (in the last month, since I moved to a more humid province) I can even hear it when motoring on the Hwy at 110 kms/hour if the wind is right (not super loud, but I hear it now and then). Went on a bumpy Saskatchewan park road last weekend and it was for sure the leaf springs etc. It makes everyonbe stop and stare!! Whats best to lube these guys with?
- LynnmorExplorerSpray the suspension parts with Fluid Film each year. It prevents rust and lubricates.
- SprinklerManExplorerTrucks and trailers back in the 40's and 50' had grease fittings on the shackles for the springs , If you can get grease in them , great , I have a oil can and squirt some 90 weight on them once or twice a year .
- Adam-12ExplorerYeah my shackles pop too when making a turn at speeds of 2-3 mph. My old trailer did the same thing. I've never had any problems and the springs/shackles never broke.
I'm not saying something could go wrong in the future. Maybe a touch of grease on the shackles where there is some bare metal showing from rubbing, might help. The popping sound is obviously some binding going on. - AaronVExplorerI have a 2013 KZ and I get axle "popping noises" too. I'm sure it's not the WD system. I will be following this topic.
