You can use drive or steer tires on the front and rear axle or even mix them. My 4wd F250 used drive tires on all four corners. My 4wd 5500 used drive tires on the four rear and steer tires up front. Drive tires have better traction but are typically louder due to open tread shoulders and they may wander more than a steer tire that is more grooved verses blocked.
