Has anyone else removed their roof antennas? When we were cleaning and conditioning the roof, we saw where the antenna was starting to rub and leave marks on the roof. Since we have NEVER used either antenna, should we just remove them? We would obviously leave the base, but remove the hardware and antenna??????

That looks like a pretty recent rig IMO. You could remove them if you like if you'll never use them, but I've never heard of anybody doing that and would hurt the resale value of the rig. Minor rubbing won't hurt anything IMO. There's other remedies that could be employed.

Our 1st TT rubbed as well, and we sold it after 4 years without any holes.. it was used plenty and on lots of dirt roads with plenty of vibration. Our current TT has a different style antenna, it has the FM receiver and TV antenna in a single flat "dish" that is raised off the roof about 12". There is no way for it to rub. Even thou you don't use them I would advise against removal, what if the world ends while your camping and want to hear it go down :-). I'll see if I can find who makes our current antenna, a swap would be worth it IMHO..Oh yeah, the new antenna also gets MUCH better FM/AM reception in the mountains.

you can always put a piece of foam under the space where it is rubbing. I would glue the foam to the antenna not the roof.

Yes, I removed ours three or four years ago, just because of that and also because we don't use it.Jack L

I don't use my antennas either and noticed wear spots on the roof membrane. I placed a few small squares of Eternabond tape where the antennas were rubbing, problem solved.

I have a new TT with a satellite & a wing unit mounted but I don't plan to raise my wing but do not see a reason to remove it. I have had several other rigs but have never had an issue with holes or rubbing the roof...

Well, I wasn't able to remove that screw. I'm not sure what the problem is. I was, however, able to remove the actual antenna from the mount, though.

I thought maybe some were not aware of the insurance angle. When the totalled Saab was adjusted and I found out about the trunk lid discount, I was tempted to put the old, correctly painted lid, back onto the car. With that, you get into "modifications after damage" issues though so I let it ride.

Sorry, I wasn't trying for sarcasm.

If you remove any standard items and an adjuster has business with you and your trailer, you could be losing money. This happened to me awhile back with a car. The car was in an accident and totalled. Previously, I had replaced the trunk lid with a salvage yard part and since it was not yet painted to the original body color, $500 was deducted from the price of the vehicle.

Save your removed antenna.

The next time we take the trailer for a bearing repack, I will have him inspect.
I may be overly cautious. But roof leaks can ruin a RV in short order.
ANY cracking and I am redoing it. I also hate areas where water can collect, and consider caulk installed in such a way as to allow this shoddy workmanship and prone to problems down the road.
I don't believe in letting this go until it looks worse.. The next time you look at it, the damage have already started.

The screw on the radio antenna is regular right hand thread it unscrews counterclockwise. Righty-tighty lefty-loosy.. :B

I have always felt that the only benefit from those that believe in washing the roof, is that it gets them up there where they can look it over for potential problems... The problem in the making that I would be concerned about here, is the condition and installation of the caulk. The antenna marks are pretty much normal and unlikely to be a issue. The caulk has surface cracks for sure, and it appears to have some gaps or holes where water can pool and possibly freeze causing future leaks.
