how to get rid of diesel smell inside of cab

so far the diesel smell it getting better, have a open pan of coffee grounds laying in a box in the back seat.

today I left it out in the driveway, sunlight with blowing wind, all doors and hood open for a few hours.

have sprayed an industrial odor neutralizer into the air ducts and all under the seats.

I can still smell a slight diesel odor when I walk up to the truck, but nothing compared to how strong it was before the good washing it got at the car wash.

I think I am going to be able to live with it, if it continues to decrease it will be gone in a week.

that is my plan, will keep the coffee grounds changed and continue to refresh the industrial odor neutralizer from time to time.

the real test will be mama bears first ride in the truck.

We had a diesel fuel leak on our Phaeton. It was leaking where the return lines attached to the fuel tank. It was the "perfect storm" of leaks as it sprayed directly into the electrical chase that runs front to back along the frame rails. Got inside the wire loom, etc. Mechanics opened up that chase, removed all the wire loom which was dripping with fuel, and used degreaser to clean out the chase and to wipe off the wires. We've been told previously that diesel does not evaporate, so it would be hard to get all the smell. It does collect dust, so perhaps after it gets enough dust/dirt on it, the smell will dissipate. At its worse, we had to open all the bay doors and windows and let it air out so we could even sleep in the coach. It is much better now. We do still smell it some, but not like before. May try the coffee grounds trick.

Sounds like there is still a small leak. Doesn't take much for diesel to smell. Friend of mine is a mechanic and he brought his personal Cummins over one day, I told him, you have a fuel leak. He said he couldn't have a leak, because he hasn't seen or smelled anything. I got a paper towel and rubbed a fitting, sure enough it was damp with fuel.

I'm with rhagfo. Evaporated odors and oil smoke from the engine compartment seem to leak right out of the rear of the hood and directly into the the cabin air intake. Besides the firewall noise blanket, the hood liner could also be soaked. And all this is even worse if a firewall pass-through is not properly sealed.

Compared to gas, fuel takes a long time to evaporate unless heat hurries it along. Might pay to thoroughly wash the engine bay unless there is a known under-hood moisture fault with the model.

Did you possibly walk through it and track it onto your carpet?

I would try to degrease and power wash the under body as posted above. I think that's going to be the most effective. Putting "air fresheners" in the cab will be a temporary fix at best. Diesel is a hard odor to get rid of not to mention obnoxious! :E

Years ago I had a fuel return line rupture on a day cab tractor spewing fuel over the entire back and under-side of the cab and front of the trailer. HORRIBLE smelling mess. The mechanics just degreased and steam-cleaned the entire cab including under it as well. The next day I couldn't smell the fuel spill. Just my two cents.

You might try adding a plug in fan to a rear window (if available) or one of the side windows and keeping the dash air on recycle. Have the fan bringing in air to pressurize the cabin. Not a cure but will make it tolerable until you can get rid of the source. Good Luck

I would try cleaning everything that is accessible with Dawn. I'm discovering that stuff is good for a lot more than cleaning dishes!

Could be worse! It could be gas!!!
I have never had an issue washing away the smell of diesel. Did by chance it soak the insulation blanket on the firewall? Might look at replacing that.

Coffee grounds ^^ will help.
