If Time And Money Were No Object

IF you had all the money you wanted you would never have enough time. There aren't many people that can say that have seen it all.

Just for fun, while still able to, I would go to Alaska in a new big motorhome! Then cris cross the USA 4 times.

I would probably take 2-3 month adventures, maybe longer. It would depend on where I felt like going.
I would definitely follow the warm weather.

I would go to every state and avoid Interstate Highways whenever possible.
You can't see America from the Interstate.

If time and money were no object, I would buy a home in the Jackson Hole area and a condo on the beach in Hawaii. I would probably buy a fairly short Class A motorhome and pull a Jeep with it. Mostly I would plan to do 2-3 month trips.

I would like to at least once make a trip up the east side of the Canadian Rockies, meander around the Yukon and NWT, then over to Alaska, back east to the Cassiar Highway and ease south through BC.

I would go west through Wyoming, Montana, Oregon and Washington and end up in Alaska.

You all are making me feel good. We are planning a trip next summer that, for us, will be the trip of a lifetime. not that time and money don't matter, they do, very much. But we have planned this for some time and plan to retire Dec 23d of this year and leave in May, 2015 from central Indiana going west, northwest to Montana and up diagonally through whatever Canada we meet to Fairbanks. Then south and maybe a shore cruise or two and back inland a little to BC and down to visit old friends and family in the Northwest US. Then back home, by whatever route it takes.

We are not rich, but frugal (well the DW is the example) and we have pretty simple needs and can really scrimp when needed. Check signature for web site. (not updated very often, yet!) Another detail, we seldom say we are going to do "such-and-such". Some may call it fate or whatever, we prefer to say God-willing. Things do happen, and we believe for a reason. We try to plan stuff with this contingency and not get thrown for a loop. The motto we are trying to live by is, "Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape".

Above all, if you can do it, don't wait till you have all the money or all the time. Just do what you can to create your own happiness and don't wait for other people or circumstances to do it for you! Happy Trails!

My wife and I have talked about this very subject many times, and we have come to the conclusion that we would keep our current home (which we really love), use it for a base place (permanent residence), and take 2 week to 1 month trips, maybe eventually traveling West of Kansas (which is the farthest West we've been camping).

This much we know, after being on the road for 2 week, we really like coming home. I know RVing is suppose to be relaxing in itself, but that is not always true. Traveling, driving, setting up camp, constantly concerned about dumping tanks, where do you groceries, it all begins to wear and tear on us after a while. It's nice to return home.

If money and time were no object, we'd approach it this way. It would be nice to head for Southern Texas or Florida from the cold snowy winter months in Indiana.

I also enjoy carpentry work. I'm always building something, or remodeling something in the house. (I'm talking gutting rooms completely out to studs and knocking out walls), building furniture, and nick-nacks. Our current home is a perfect one for doing this. If we hit the road full time, I would greatly miss this. I enjoy my wood shop.

Time and money would give me the best of both worlds. But probably for 2 week to 1 month jaunts camping, back home a short while and hit the road again! WOOD keeps calling my name. (My wife is into Stained Glass). I definitely would quit my job.

Edit: in my "real world" experiences, I have found I have either had time or money, but never both at the same time! I suppose that law of physics that says 2 objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time is true here... time and money at the same time is very rare. Several years ago I was terminated from my job. I had LOTS of time, but no money.

Later, I ended up with a really great job, but also requires more than 40 hours a week, sometimes week-ends, and sometimes late night and early morning commitments. So although there is money, I don't have the time!

I imagine we all have our bucket list.

In the end we all will be a brain living in a glass bottle on a shelf somewhere and we just dream out our life's adventures.

Enjoy the struggles and smell the outdoors and listen to the night noises while we can...

We have found that five or six weeks is our limit, and then we need to go back to home base and take care of all of the things we have put off.

We took a six week trip to Glacier and the Canadian Rockies a couple of years ago -- I am having a hard time finding anything to top that experience. Yes, we still want to go to Alaska and the Yukon -- and that will take a long time. And the Canadian Maritimes, too. And following the autumn leaves from north to south on the east coast of the US.

Actually, I guess there are lots of adventures still to come!
