I will have to disagree on this part of your post. I have the struts and I am sure other Lance owners here have them too.
Mine work great, on our concrete freeways it takes a lot of back and forth motion out (proposing).
There are 3 lengths made for the different cabs made. Measure eye to eye in the collapsed position and post it. I have a spare set that are made for a crewcab and are to long for my setup.
If you choose to move the mounts, the advice given on moving the mounts is sound, I would email lance.
