Had struts installed on my new Lance 1181 yesterday. The technician said there should be four inches of travel between the top end (on the shaft) of the strut and the cylinder for travel. That all I know. With the bad roads in USA, the struts do help as I can attest to. I have seen other camper brands using struts. Truck Camper Mag did a good test of struts.
