^No, what did the shop do to the truck?
You picked up the truck. They either told you what they did or it's written on the invoice.
We understand that no one will know how long the fix works until suck time has passed.
Hey, Grit Dog! Please don't pull so hard at the leash. Just sit and wait and you will get your tennis ball.
Well, no one said I picked up the truck. In fact the truck was driven less than 200 feet out into the lot and didn't move until this morning. While you are welcome to the repairs and solutions, but I am more interested in what the result is, since it is my home too. I full time and the delay, in departure, was due to repeated snowstorms hitting to the west and where I am in Tucumcari, I have a nice warm spot free of the weather in the direction I am heading.
After driving 280 miles today, the truck ran flawlessly. Reviewing the cause, the truck went into limp mode after the Exhaust Cleaning Mode came on. Unfortunately it occurred in the middle of a 75 mile section of US 54 with not pull offs or side roads. After allowing the truck to cool, I drove into the next town, 55 miles away. When restarting the truck, it ran fine until the last 2 to 3 miles when it again went into limp mode. This was at the same time as the Exhaust Cleaning Mode activating.
The truck service was a place that was recommended to me, by someone I knew as an over the road trucker. I got a hold of him when I was parked in the pull out at State Line of Texas/New Mexico on US 54. I have a great group of friends and resource. I made it to this below noted shop, Friday night December 23rd, 2016. On the internet for their shop, they would be closed until Tuesday, December 27th. So I waited. I had no other place to go.

The service and attention to detail was exceptional, as well as the time to explain and offer solutions for considerations.
The diagnosis was the fuel system was compromised, by poor fuel or restricted filter. So when the additional demand for fuel on the hills and grades of US 54, as well as the grade just outside of Tucumcari, the fuel was not able to pass through the Fuel Filter efficiently. The last time I had changed the fuel filter was 19,787 miles previously. Also of note, a couple of fuel fills back I had gotten down to the final alert warning (50 miles left) on my Fuel Gauge. I rarely ever get this far down between fueling. In addition the temperatures were down in the low teens and Diesel fuel was probably low in anti gelling additives. In other words things were cascading downward.
So, being in Tucumcari and this shop is mostly Diesel Trucks and motor homes, the parts were ordered and delivered (get this, from Roswell, NM, the nearest parts supply). Another good example of when I tell people to prepare for these things when traveling in less populated areas for anything on their RVs, whether it is a water pump or Fuel Filter. In addition to many of the parts and filters I do carry, I now have an extra Fuel Filter.
Today, Tues. January 2nd, I headed west towards my winter destination of the Mojave Desert. The truck ran great! The truck has been problem free since I purchased it in the Fall of 2008. So while I was there, at John's Diesel Service, I had additional service work done too. Transmission, Transfer Case, Differential (I have had a slight leak since my brakes were redone in April), Lube. Since the oil/filter were changed less than 3k ago, in April, I passed on this.
I can tell you, I will be putting John's Diesel Service, Tucumcari New Mexico on my stop list, as well as my planned maintenance schedule when I travel through this area. As I often due late fall/early winter, on my way to the Chihuahuan and or the Mojave Desert!
