Howdy all....I'm seeking your learned opinions of the the above mentioned tires for full time travelling in a 06 Dodge3500 Dually pulling a 36' Dutchmen 5th wheel. We'll be trying to avoid the snow but it could happen

In My area
Big O has the Michelens...
Standard Tire has the TransForce

Prices are pretty much the same....Big O offer a hazard warranty but only in the Big O chain...Standard offers a nationwide (7000 dealer) hazard warranty.

IF possible please share your experiences regarding handling, wear characteristics and life.
Thanks
Stpehan

I had the transforce HT's, I replaced them at 7k miles, they where fine for towing and highway use, but in the dirt and snow they were horrible. In heavy wet snow I could not go more than 45 mph's without hydroplaning.

Ah, the ol what tire is better thread. The one that does not michiblow, or firebomb on you! Never had a firebomb, michiblows are dimes a dozen.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, one says never another Cooper.....hmmmm, never had a Cooper blow up on me. Lasted twice as many miles as the michiblows did too.

So with tires, just like the 4x or 4x2, or Frod vs dogde vs Chebby, take your pick, some will be good, others bad, some in between......no right or wrong to some degree.

From my standpoint, Cooper or Toyo are the better brands I have used. Bridgestone not bad. Probably on par, but have not used them enough to put on the same level I will with cooper or toyo. Worst one, blow boy from France. Next worst BFGoodrich. Firestone, good year in the middle like Bridgestone.

That's what I have on my truck. They have 50K on them and still have over 1/2 the tread left.

X4 I put on about a year ago, and went the entire winter with almost zero tire spin without and weight in the bed of the truck. Looking at another low spin winter.

Hopefully a better tire then the friends AT2's ,and the two sets of Michelins I've i owned in the past. They were for a better choice of words, terrible. I think these OEM Firestone Transforce HT's are in a race to see if they are the worst wearing then the two sets of Michelins I had.

This weather cracking issue with the Michelins , has that been resolved or is it still an ongoing issue. :@

I have this story regarding the AT2's. When I bought a new 3500 in Feb I made a deal with the local Tire Factory store to trade my take off AT2's for Nitto Exo Grapplers. I made the deal in December prior to my truck hitting the ground. When I brought the pickup in and reminded him about our deal he shows me the stacks of AT2's he has since take in as take offs. He honored my deal but currently will only give a $100 a tire for the AT2's.

They are extremely unpopular tires in this part of the country. Winter traction is very bad, don't hold up to gravel seemed to be the first comments mentioned. Perhaps in their element they are fine, but I would avoid them.

I think there are much better tires for the money.

I will never buy another set of Coopers. Started off good and wore quickly. The more wear they had the louder they got. Im running BF Goodrich on 5er and TransForce on truck. No problems with either.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Very informative. Gave me a couple of other options to research. In doing so I found a discount tire shop within a reasonable distance..so I'm now considering;

The Cooper Discoverer HTT

or

The Yokohama Geolander A/T-S

Anyone try these?

I've ran Firestone Transforce AT's on several trucks over the years and have had great luck with them. Held up well to the abuse of construction job sites and snow plowing. Always had good wear out of them too.
Just put a new set on my dually this spring.
