Mouse activity

A few years ago we got mice right here in the city after 30+ years of abeyance. A neighbor just recently admitted he had worked on an infested farm-car in his garage about that time and got them too. Unfortunately, due to new leash laws, there are no more stray cats around here. Personally, I like peanut-buttered spring traps near the RV doors best and check them every few days. Remove the fresh carcasses with inside-out doggy doo-doo bags over your hands and reset.

For the coyote urine, you have to set up a game camera and see which tree they're using. Then just tie a bottle to the tree at the appropriate height. I'm serious here. I'm pretty sure it will work unless the next coyote is really short.

For the bull, you tie a nice heifer in the back yard close to the house, let the bull loose and watch carefully. Then run out with a condom at the appropriate time (the bull will hardly notice). It'll fall off after, and you have to get to it, and grab it before the coyotes do.

Leavin a live cat in the TT works best to keep mice out. It's better to rent one than own one. One of those hairless Egyptian types will probably work best if you have nice furniture and clean towels in the closet. One other thing; we once accidentally locked our regular hairy cat in our house bedroom before we left for a week. Didn't know she was already in the closet making hair on our clothes. So the one other thing is to make sure the confined cat has a litter box and water. Now ours didn't have any water so I figure the worst was done the first few days. She was pretty hoarse when we got home and her voice never was the same after. One good thing, I bet it was another full week before she went back into that room in the closet.

Since the belly is enclosed, it's going to be best to seal all the access point in he belly, to keep the mice totally out of the RV.

If you seal the inside holes around plumbing and wires, that will keep them out of the interior, but they will continue to makes nests and babies in the under belly.

You have to hold the bottle very still....

The guys at our deer lease introduced me to mint oil. Small bottle and use cotton balls. Put cotton ball at opening of bottle and turn upside down a few seconds. Then distribute around floor and squish a few into any duct grilles. Along with the steel/brass wool stuffed into outside holes it seems to have worked.

We leave the TT there year'round and sometimes don't visit for 2 months at a time.

One more thing - are you storing with the slides out? If so, pull them in for storage.

Cats ... on our property we actually leave the hood open on our truck in the barn so the cats keep creepy crawlers from chewing on the wires! I'm not a cat person, but having them on the property (not in the house) works wonders.

It does seem to be the luck of the draw. Two winters ago we had no mice. Last winter they held their annual "Mouse Fest" gathering in the kitchen sink!!!

There was no damage or nesting but there also was no food left in the TT.

I store my TT in the backyard and plugged all holes I could find. I did have the TT plugged in so perhaps they liked the warmth of the phantom circuits.

I used enough dryer sheets to make a decent mouse bed but again no nesting. Of course we were on the road by the spring breeding season.

This year I an going to try the various mouse repellants and unplug the TT rather than power the phantom loads.

Time will tell.
