new ac unit

I just installed an ac unit and am trying it out to make sure it is working properly. The compressor doesnt seem to be coming on. Now the degrees here is currently 55.f so could this be why it doesnt kick in??
  • sign man - That is great. Lots of folks will want to know this.

trail-explorer - Not a waste of money if you have to buy a hair dryer, not to mention the hassle of buying one. Easier to turn on the furnace.

Cobra21 - Keeps a consistent temp in the house. :B

  • Okay here is an update: i installed a coleman mach one ac unit 11000 btu and draws 9.5 amps on high. I also purchased a honda2000i generator. The generator starts up AND cycles the ac in eco mode. I am very happy with the pair!

I got to laugh, this is what my ageing mother always did in her house!

  • blow a hair dryer on the thermostat to make it see a warm enough temp to kick on the AC. It's a waste of propane to try and warm up the camper with the furnace.

have you measured any current draw yet. This is the 11000BTU Roof Mounted Air conditioner you was referring to in a previous post.

Curious what the current draw ended up being... I know you was wanting to use the 2KW Honda to run it. I have seen the 9500BTU unit being offered but not the 11000BTU model.

Be sure to post some info once you get it up and running on how it works with the 2KW Honda type Generator...

  • Yup, 55°F is colder than any AC thermostat is going to allow the compressor to come on. @Reddog1 is right, only way to get it to kick in is to run the furnace and warm the place up first.
  • With your furnace, bring the TC temp up. Then turn the A/C on.
