Well, at least I'm tooting my truck's horn!Actually, my Chevy 3500 diesel dually (2014 model) in my signature below got me 19.5 mpg this last week-end (not towing) and it was not flat interstate driving either. It was secondary highway and town travel. This shocked the dickens out of me!Last towing I got 15.6 mpg (to Northern Indiana and back), there again, not interstate.I would have never believed it, had I not experienced it! My truck now has 3250 miles! Seems the more I'm driving it, the better the fuel consumption is getting to. It was 14 (not towing) and 10 (towing) between 500 and 1500 miles. I was disappointed with it being a new truck. So this just tickles me to pieces!I'm not "bragging!" But I am tooting my horn!Makes me love that truck more and more every day! It's almost getting enough mpg now, I CAN use it for a daily driver!Comments welcome to toot your horns too! (However, I'm still stunned at the 19.5 this last week-end!)

That is good mileage. But to truly determine mileage it needs to be over several tanks filled at same location if possible or at least with truck sitting fairly level and fill to top of tank and always hand calculate.

Hopefully you are manually calculating the mileage. The computer in one of our work hybrid SUV shows the vehicle getting 29 MPG. Yet when we do the calculations it's only averaging 21 MPG.If you are getting 19.5 empty that's great you must have a much lighter foot than I do.

Our 05 was dead on showing the fuel mileage and fuel used until 2009 when the speedometer had a problem. After a couple of re flashes it is not far off but now I do the math when checking mileage. I do know some that don't know if the dic is correct but like what it shows them. chevman

I hope your friends aren't playing tricks on you haha... Had a guy at works always telling everyone he was getting bad gas mileage so his "friends" started adding gas every day. Got the guy up to about 26MPG in his truck...Then after listening to all of that for a few days they started taking gas out of his truck everyday. He was down to around 4MPG after that.Then they finally told him what was happening haha...I get about that much gas mileage when towing my trailer but it is a 4200LB OFF-ROAD POPUP unit. My F150 2010 truck doesn't change much on gas mileage whether it is pulling the POPUP trailer or not thanks to NO WIND LOAD...Must be the 'ECO-BOOST' motors at play here...Roy Ken

King we did the same thing to a kid back in the late 60's. He got a new VW (no one ever had a new car then) and was bragging about it. We added gas for about two weeks (only .28 back then) and the bragging continued. Once we started taking a gallon out he was so bewildered he took it back to the dealer to complain about going from 38 mpg down to 19. He said the dealer looked at him like he was crazy.

My 2003 Duramax 3500 dually would never get that high a mileage. If memory serves me, around 17.5 at best empty on a flat road at 65 MPH.

Now my current vehicle (2011 F-350 Powerstroke dually) seems to be really fussy on where I fuel it. The absolute best mileage I can get comes from running Cenex brand diesel fuel. I gotta say, for a regional only brand, Cenex seems to be really good quality fuel. And best for me comes in again at that 17.5 range.

Of course, living in the upper midwest, great plains area, seems we are always bucking wind from one direction or the other. No such thing as a calm day.

Impressive for a DRW... I made a round trip to our deer camp yesterday ~100 miles and made 19.8 mpg with a SRW truck. I do notice the wind speed or lack of really has an impact on my fuel mileage.

In addition my round trip was driving 75 mpg. If I was driving 55-60 mph I would be 20+ easy.

Our 2015 has just over 3700 miles on it. The best I have done solo is 19.5 going 70 mph. Our first major tow with our 15,500 pound Excel was 550 miles and we averaged 9.3. I am expecting better as we traveled with some friends who are in way more of a hurry than we are so most of the trip was at 70 mph. My comfort level is 65 and I have told my friend to go ahead next time. We'll be right behind him somewhere. Also, about half of that trip was into a very stiff head wind. Before we turned into it I was at 10.7 even with the higher speed. I am anxious to see how we do at my speeds.

To the OP, secondary highways will get better MPG, as your speed will be closer to the 55 mph sweet spot.
My old 01 just did a 355 mile trip mixed freeway and secondary roads and turned 20.1 mpg hand calculated.
