Wife wants a portable ice maker for the trailer and asked if I'd research.....I know the perfect place, HERE. lol

She's tired of the ice demand while camping and I ain't buying a Yeti.

Will they produce enough ice to top off coolers, worth the $100 + ?

Thankyou.

Not trying to de-rail the ice maker question, but if you're going through alot of ice in a cooler (presumably away from the RV where you cant just keep stuff in the fridge) then a good cooler is worth the money.
If you're hammering through the ice sitting in the shade next to the RV downing cocktails, invest in a couple Hydro Flasks for your drinks. Your ice consumption will go down considerably and your booze consumption will increase!
Stay thirsty my friend!

365 days a year, Hydro flask is the go to for hot and cold drinks. Camping, empty out the last morning coffee (still warm around noon). Fill with ice and get the cocktails rolling. Next morning have to dump out the ice that's left to fill with coffee again!

Like others have said, the ice isn't very hard, and it melts fast. It's great for drinks, but that's about all.

I love mine, but I would never attempt to use it to keep a cooler cold.

If you have a fridge with a freezer in your rv, than the old style ice cube trays work. Takes up some freezer space but four trays of ice works well for the three of us. Fits straight into the freezer like a glove! Used to have a $150+ ice maker but got rid of it. Took up a lot of space and was always a pain to operate.

Go to Walmart and buy one...we have had one for several years...use it also when we are not camping.

This or start w block ice in a yeti knock off or igloo marine cooler. It keeps solid ice for a week if it's kept shaded and access minimized.

Love our ice maker too but we did get tired of adding water all the time so off to Amazon I went. The solution without breaking the bank, an ice maker that has a 2-5 gallon bottle on top to feed the ice maker. Love it!!

Tough to put in drinks, ice tea, pop, adult beverages. Ice boxes went out a number of years ago. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not with a cooler big enough to hold everything you need. 3 or 4 frozen bottles keep the whole cooler cold.

I bought one at Walmart 3 years ago, and we like it. But then there are just 2 of us, but we keep it busy.

it's good for what it is...

Cooler, never.

Best thing for a cooler is block ice, not the bags.

Iโ€™ve always wanted one but was always to cheap to spend the $100-$150 for one. So I finally got one when we bought our new to us RV. The owner installed it in the basement storage compartment. It works decent for making ice for drinks, but the ice is t solid enough for a full size cooler. Iโ€™ll throw some of it into my lunch box type cooler, works great for that.

As far as how much I spent on it. I either got it for free with the RV or I spent $65k to get one, still trying to figure that out!

Get a residential or DC powered refrigerator with a built in ice maker. First, the residential refrigerator will keep things colder and second, the ice maker is a lot better than most of the portables on the market.

Ice makers (under $200) need attention throughout the day to move from maker to freezer or cooler or as mentioned, the ice melts quite quickly. What about a 3cf freezer? Make a bunch at home and just keep it cold?

I just buy ice. It's readily available almost everywhere I camp and I can plan when I get more without interrupting my day much. I also have a decent cooler. Not quite rotomolded, but this Lifetime is under $100 locally.
