portable ice maker

I purchased the Igloo Ice Maker last week. WOW!

My favorite upgrade. Tried it in the TT and after filling a bucket in a few hours I brought it home and plugged it in. I've got a Wal-Mart plastic bag full, probably 20lbs of ice between 6pm and lunch the following day. My Fiance' told me turn the ice maker off and quit making ice. No more room in the freezer. Lol By the way, the igloo and magic chef are one in the same.

That is something I really need to get. We do alot of camping off the power grid and ice sure doesn't last very long. Makes me drive out and find more about every two days...

My wife was against a portable ice maker until I came home from Home Depot with a Magic Chef on sale for $93, regularly $169. After camping for about 45 days, my wife loves the ice maker and will not camp without one.

I have the one like mhardin posted the link for. I don't think the one with the bottle on top would work anywhere in my TT, except the middle of the floor. with the bottle on top, it would be pretty high. besides I don't think I could get the bottle up high enough. Seems like it would be a lot of hassle. I already don't use mine everytime I go. I have been known to leave it at home, because it just wouldn't be worth even that little bit of effort. Oh yeah, I paid less than $100 for mine on sale at Target.

Ours is the one with the oval window. The one the OP is talking about would be WAY more than we would have need for or space for. Having to haul the cooler, stop for ice, hoist it out of the truck and get it placed somewhere convenient was turning into just one more PITA job for us old folks. And as it turned out EVERY weekend, we ended dumping out the majority of ice we'd bought. I saw the oval window one and thought what a great gift it would be for DH....the ice man. I just told him I'd bought him a gift that would be here in a few days. When it came, he said later he thought that had to be the weirdest gift I'd ever bought. Now he doesn't know how we lived without it. Our BFF in CA was coming up to birthday time and we never spend that much for a gift for him, but DH was sure this was a winner, so we did. When he opened it up, he had that same look as DH had, but his wife was crazy excited about it. They can use it out by the pool and keep the grandkids from running in and out for ice for their drinks and she said they never run out.

When we get backed in, even before we're leveled and completely done, we set the ice machine on the countertop, add the water and by the time we've finish set up, patio mat and chairs it's time for something cold and we have enough ice to make a couple of drinks. We never run out. Our first batch takes about 20 minutes.

The link in my first post is the ice maker I have and thought the OP was referring to. I was wrong, here is a CLICKY to the one mentioned by the OP. I like it! I use my smaller one in the house and plan to take it on trips. It just might be replaced by one of these and become a permanent fixture in the trailer.

have one and they work great. There are several on the market, but only made by a few companies, but are resold under the name of many companies. Before we bought ours this summer, we did alot of research and it seems that the ones with the oval window like this had the best recommendations.

I would not like having a bottle setting on top. One thing it would take up space in the camper, for 100$ at other stores I can fill mine up with a pitcher as it gets low. The price of a snow cone machine and ice maker will be cheaper some other place than that.

While mine may only hold 1 gallon of water I paid around $100.00 in Target 3 years ago. I have used it in July in Disney and it worked just fine in the 95+ temp.
