Questions about tire and axle loading

I've got a Ford F250 3/4 Ton 2014 SRW SuperDuty SuperCab XLT 4x2 6.75" Short Bed Gas Engine truck.

The first question is about the tires which I think I know the answer to: I have Load Range E tires with a max load of 3195#. My GVWR is 10,000#. Focusing on the rear tires, my rear GAWR is 6200#, so is it correct to say that the weaker link is the axle (at 6200#) because the two rear tires can support 3195*2 = 6390#?

The second question is that I went to get the truck weighed at a scale and the rear axle load (without camper) is 2820#. I believe this means I can put up to 6200-2820 = 3380# on the rear axle right?

If so, does all of the weight of a truck camper go on the rear axle? If so, then that would mean that my camper wet weight can't go over 3380# right?

I know the GAWR can't be increased, but do things like a rear stabilizer bar do anything for safety or is that just for ride comfort?

Beer is mostly water and a keg is ~16 gallons @ 8.33 per gallon, 133 pounds + the weight of the keg itself. I'd say at least 150 pounds.

Gonna need a dually 😉

As you are intent on moving forward on this project. Be sure to look beyond the obvious. Have you compared what others are doing for shocks? With this weight on the back, your front shocks/coils (if you have them) will certainly be impacted. How about brakes? Going to a hotter use pads will provide more stopping power in extreme conditions such as mountain driving and panic stops. Is your radiator up for the task in extreme conditions?

Personally I would go the way DJ is suggesting, as well.

Ticki2 and Buzzcut are correct. The F250/F350 share the same 9600# rear axle. I went back in to the Ford Dealer's shop and talked to the truck techs before I bought mine.

Mine did not come with overloads either. But I didn't want to make the empty ride any rougher than it is so I did not add to the spring pack, I went to a local spring shop and had these 3000# overloads installed. It was about $450. But they do not come into play until the truck squats under load.

What TC are you looking at?

Lance 855S 2015

Loaded with water, propane and a moderate amount of your "stuff", figure that the 855s is going to be 3500# to 3800#, unless between 2012 (ours) and 2015 (yours) they built in an anti-gravity option. :R

Our Chevy now wears 3970# rated tires all around plus Timbrens and a BigWig anti-sway bar. Handles the load just fine.

When RV companies give a 'wet weight' do they allow for our gear in that or just propane and water?? I see the term used when I'm not sure it means what we think it means.

The wet weight as stated for the 855 does not include personal gear , food, 2 cases of beer or options .:)

You should be fine with that lance 855. But its reassuring to have a 9800 lb axle.

Shows 3032 wet...

Lance 855

I guess as was stated by these members a few upgrades will make you more bullet proof...

Good luck ....:)

You can replace the entire spring pack with a heavier one and then decide if you need more later. See this link: http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16915

Look at the Roadmaster stabilizer bar for the rear: http://www.roadmasterinc.com/pdfinst/1139-173.pdf

Does your truck have the camper package option with the upper overload spring?

Mine had upper and lower overload springs allowing me to use the upper StableLoad pads and lower StableLoad wedges to engage those springs sooner.

Here you can see the leading edge of my stbilizer bar. The upper overloads and stabilizer came with the OEM camper package.

Your F250 has plenty capacity hidden away...
