quieting Jenny- mods

So I have been watching the quieting Jenny posts, and with all the opinions of not use or to use, solar, more batteries etc,etc I was wondering for those of us that use generators what mods have some of us done to reduce the noise. True that you could never remove all the noise, but surely reduce it, so with that being said I would like to hear what people have done to reduce the noise, I don't use mine very often but when I do I would like to think I did everything to make it quieter for my camping neighbors. So let hear the mods Thanks

I agree, I hate it when someone shows up with one of those big box store discount generators. They sound like a Public Works Crew getting ready to tear up the street.
I bought a Honda it's quiet, reliable and sips fuel.

If it were that simple Honda and Yamaha wouldn't be selling too well.

The expensive engineering goes toward quieting the generator rotor and associated parts, not the engine.
  • Yah, I was thinking, yet to build it, but an open faced box, lined with sound deadening material.

Open end away from the "Maddening crowd" and placed away somewhere...

    standing by for good ideas...
  • Good suggestion re: the natural hill to block sound. That's what I do.

They make sound deadening board where you could build some kind of vented box to place the generator in.
I have had great results using this type of product along with carpeting and insulation on walls and ceilings to insulate rooms, keeping the sound of my band to a minimum and not go beyond my property lines.

  • One 'mod' I often see is putting the rattle-trap generator a hundred feet away from anyone. A very considerate man put his over an embankment which worked really well.

I can usually put up with loud gens during the day, as long as they're not running for hours on end. But please, whatever you can do to NOT run it to watch TV at night is a good thing. A small inverter works just great.

Mufflers, boxes.. they don't work real well.
