Hi all, After reading much information here about this, I decided to take step one.(control her singing.)In short, Onan 2500 in a Lance 1131. (Vibration noise, mechanical noise, exhaust noise)Put an inline straight pipe Cummins muffler in addition to stock setup. Restriction negligible. Decibel output reduction semi-significant! Now (after addition exhaust muffler) if you cover exhaust exit with hand or without your hand, very minimal perceived audible difference.Next step, enclosure vibrations and resonating into camper.Thx,GThis To that

The quiet one is the sun, solar, we have a generator we have yet to use. The use of bubble mounts and sound deadening can contribute to a much quieter generator.

question - not about the generator noise - looking at the pics you cannot see your license plate. does this ever cause a problem with the law. if a cop pulls up behind you he/she cannot see them. is this a problem? same thing with me.

The 2500 and 4000 run at 3600 RPM. THE 5500 Onan runs at 1800 and is WAY quieter. Mufflers can help but crankcase, piston and head design are the most important. Listen to early Cummins diesels vs new ones.

I found that true synthetic reduced noise although I didn't use a decible meter.

Aint that the truth.
Even the all hallowed Honda's are noisy if your anywhere close by or if you aren't getting the power from one.
For some reason when your the one benefiting from the power the noise isn't too bad.

30 couple years of camping. NEVER hooked up to a generator. When we go off grid. I'm ready, and no electricity is required, or needed. that is what propane is for.

Glad that works for you.
Everybody does their own kind of camping and nobody's is better than anyone else's - as I'm sure you would agree.
Some of us have bigger needs for power and have to rely on more than solar.

Onan 2400 Microlite on my Lance 1040, added the same resonator as the OP, same result, much better.
