Real world weights for Sonnybrook 298BHS

I'm doing some homework for a friend who is looking at a 2012 Sunset Creek 298BHS. I'm not finding any REAL weights posted anywhere online. The website is saying tongue weight is 920, I just don't know how conservative they are. My Jayco wasn't even in the ball park with the posted specs.
He's looking at towing it with a 2010 Nissan Titan, I think his payload is around 1500lb. but the picture he sent me of the door sticker didn't say. I found a website stating payload at 1900lbs but that sounds high to me, maybe I'm wrong.
  • He's decided to look for something a little lighter, thanks to all the replies and to mosseater for posting the numbers, you post is what changed his mind!
  • My actual scaled tongue weight with my standard load of goodies in the rear cargo compartment (four bikes, drinks, two bins of firewood, clothes, ladder and other misc. accoutrements and tools) runs around 1100 lbs ready to tow. The dry tongue weight listed in the book was very close to the actual weight the salesman showed the day I first look at the unit on his lot, 910 lbs. On the day I picked it up with propane and battery but nothing in the rear and no water in the tank, it scaled almost 1000 lbs. So, loading the rear helps balance the rest of the goodies that have made their way into the unit over the years, but only to a certain point. Hit me with PM if you want more info.

It's going to be a stretch for his Titan. I wouldn't.

Your Jayco is made out of wooden 2x2's. The Sunnybrook is an aluminum welded frame. Heavier and sturdier. Its a big trailer and we tow with a 3/4 ton Suburban with an 8.1l. I couldn't imagine towing it with a 1/2 ton even though they state it in the brochure. It would just be to much. Look for a lighter series trailer like the Jayco or upgrade your TV. I liked the Jayco G2 Jayflight and it was lighter but looking at fit n finish its just not built as good as the Sunnybrook.

Do you know what your actual tongue weight is? Have you had yours on a scale? I've lost complete faith in published numbers, so I'm looking for real weights from someone with this model.
    Thanks
  • 298BHS
    Hitch Weight (lbs.) 920
    Dry Weight (lbs.) 6,900
    GVWR (lbs.) 11,320
    Carrying Capacity (lbs.) 4,420

That's far too much for half ton crew cab pickup and a family of 4+. Closer to 6k dry with under 700 pounds of TW assuming at least 1500 pounds of payload and the Big Tow package. He needs to locate this sticker. I've never seen a Titan with 1900 pounds of payload.

  • I have a 2012 SunnyBrook Sunset Creek brochure which lists the 298 BH (no S but the floor plan has a large slide that contains the sofa & dinette) with a dry hitch weight of 902 w/o options, dry gross weight 6615 lbs w/o options and GVWR of 10,000 lbs. I'd use the 10,000 number and figure actual hitch weight to be about 1,300 lbs (13% of gross weight). Hitch height is listed at 21-1/2". Send me a private message if you want more from the brochure.
  • I don't have it anymore, but my 2012 Titan SV crew cab had a payload right at 1600lbs according to my door sticker.
