Whatever TT you decide on, rent a similar unit. You will learn a lot before you spend the big bucks.

How the trailer and tow vehicle combo work is largely a matter of opinion. It is best to know before you buy.

I have looked at used trailers when we have gone looking. There aren't many with the options we want or the age we are looking at. If we purchased used would like something no more than 3-4 years old. In our area it seems people keep them forever. Our girls love camping, we currently go at least twice a year in the cooler months. We would go more often if we had A/C. I am planning on renting a trailer soon and try it out. We like the 303BH and 3030BH (Summerland Series) Springdale floorplans.

We have 2 girls and a when we started looking we wanted the same as you. Same length with bunks so they could bring friends and we wanted our own bedroom. Looked at many different models. Ended up buying the 2980BH from Springdale. Have owned it for 11 years now and very trouble free.
The 298 is still made but now called the Summerland series. The 298 is a four bunk model. They have a 2960BH which is a two bunk model.

Keystone Springdale, Summerland, Bullet, and Passport will fall right in your category, for length, price, and floor plan. They are not a "high end" trailer, but with moderate care, should serve you for a long time.

I would second the thought of getting into a trailer now instead of waiting. I felt hesitant at first, but jumped in and very much appreciate that we have had the experiences since then.

I would also recommend buying a used trailer. You can get what you want in the $15K range and save the difference to fix anything that might go wrong. I bought a 5 year old trailer (2008 Jayco 29BHS) and did not know much about what to look for except what I learned here. I did a pretty good job. Small issues, but even brand new can have lots of issues. I think a gently used, recent trailer often has bugs worked out for the most part. You can also sell it and lose less $$ if need be compared to the depreciation on a new one.

2 features that I found important: Kitchen counter space, and large tanks. When you dry camp having a lot of capacity is liberating. Also, storage, especially on a TT. I have a bunk that folds up so that it creates storage accessible from an outside door. Very handy.

I do not miss an outdoor kitchen. I have a portable gas grill and 2 little butane stoves that I can set up wherever I want. They are all basically disposable, and I can keep cooking smoke and stuff away from the rig. I wish I had a bigger bathroom being 6-4, but everyone else does fine (and so do I, really). I find it thrilling to be able to take a hot shower in the middle of nowhere, actually.

One last idea, and that is to rent a trailer before you buy. We did a thing where the rental company plopped the trailer in a space we reserved, so we didn't have to learn to tow it before we tried camping in it. We got to evaluate the floor plan in real life, and it really made clear what was important as far as features. You could do that several times with different trailers if you wanted. Not going to comment on the trailer but if your girls are 9 and 13 now I suggest you jump on the trailer right away. Their attitudes on camping with mom and dad might change in 2 years. We are dealing with our granddaughters, 15 and 13, shying away from the camping experience. Understandable but still not easy. If they are 7 and 11 now I still suggest making the move ASAP.

Outdoor kitchen and big bathroom are my wants. the length shouldnt be a problem where we want to go.

Are the places you want to camp ok with that length? For instance Olympic National Park has very limited spaces for TTs over 21 feet.

We have had quite a few different campers and one thing we wanted on our new one was an outside kitchen, and a big bathroom with a solid door on the shower, central air, and no slide on the awning side, we have had that and it is unhandy and in the way.


so far the outside kitchen had been more handy than we thought as she can make coffee out side, and I can do some of the sides while I grill and that takes some work off of her, plus washing dishes outside is also handy.

when in bear country we can put the grill and other smelly things in it and just shut the door at night and not worry about it.

the big bathroom is more her than me, but she loves it, we have grandkids and it makes it nice for getting them cleaned up.

I really think you can get a TT that will be what you want in the 28-30ft range.
