Spare Leaf Spring

On our last trip I busted a leaf spring while under warranty. Lippert sent me two new springs (for front axle) and a mobile tech to install them. Since getting home I've replaced all 4 #2200 springs with new #2500 springs and a MORyde wet bolt and shackle kit.

I now have two nearly new #2200 springs and a bunch of shackles and shackle bolts sitting around. Is there any reason to carry any of this stuff as spares? How often do leaf springs break?

    Haven't broken one in all my years of towing. Haven't met anyone who has. Recycle!

    If one upgrades +1 size up (from minimum quality factory default), it dramatically lowers the risk of another breakage. IMO, I would simply recycle old parts and/or sell as used parts.

    It's not worth it to me to deal with all the Craigslist phone calls just to sell some old used trailer springs for $25. They'll go in the shop until the next time I clean the shop then they'll likely end up at the dump. Thanks :)


    25 dollars ???? So, assuming you are selling them for half price that means the new spring were only 50 dollars ? No wonder they broke.

    Been camping 35 years and currently own five trailers I have never broken a leaf spring.

    I broke one on my last TT. It had an oddball size. I had to order it (I upgraded one weight class) and wait for it. I then carried one of the old ones around until I sold the TT.
    If it was a common size, I don't know that I would do that.
    If you want, you could disassemble the spring pack and just carry the longest one with you. That is the one that will leave you stranded. Save on the weight that way.

    I've broken 4 sets of springs over the years on my TT. About one every 8 years or so. I would carry a spare if I were you if you can put them in yourself. I can and have while on the road.
