Step 2: Get the Camper

A while back I posted step 1, which was a 2012 F350 CC DRW 6.2. Step 2 arrived a little earlier than planned. It's a 2013 Arctic Fox 990 we picked up used. The previous owner only used it 3 times, so it's basically new. Has the Fox Landing, generator, thermal pane windows, 100-watt solar panel, swing out brackets, 11K BTU A/C, and slideout topper options. The price was too good to pass up, so rather than wait we decided to do it now.



This is something we have been working toward and talking about since about 2009, so we are super excited. We plan to use this to pursue our project to ski 100 resorts in North America, as well as for summer camping.

    The AF 990 on DRW is an awesome combo. I think you'll find you'll be extremely happy with the setup and performance and....it just looks good too!! My 2013 AF 990 rides on my 2003 DRW CC King Ranch but your 2012 looks even better. Here's a shot on the rim (no pun intended during The NCAA Final 64 Tourney) of the Grand Canyon (North Side).

    That's a great project also. By my count it is 50 resorts if you make it >= 1000 vert. That should keep you busy for a while! You are having a great winter out there so hopefully you are getting to the ones that don't normally have good snow.


    I've got 31 on the list.
    I have done 25 over the years...since our Son was born we have done 14 together.
    We should compare notes...I'll send you my list...

    I bought a 2008 camper in 2011 and it was used only for the first year by the prior owner and on only a few trips. If the average family or couple buys a camper and they are still working, odds are that the camper is going to get used a couple weeks each year and after 3-5 years is not going to have significant wear if cared for at all. With very old RV's I worry about possible leaking seams as doubt many people are meticulous about applying new sealant each year to the roof and vents.

    Wow nice looking setup. :B Congrats on the new to you rig. You got it at the right time also as spring has just sprung so go out and enjoy it.

    I used to have a 2009 1140 that I ordered and should of kept it instead of going down the road to other rigs. I do like my Northern Lite also. In fact I have liked all of our RVs we had except 2 and I would rather forget those 2.

    We looked at both Lance and Arctic Fox and when they were both at the Pleasanton RV show in January I had a long talk with Doug from Northwoods Mfg about some of the issues I've seen mentioned on this forum. I was happy with his responses. The other TC we were considering was the Lance 992, but in the end we were more comfortable with having just 1 slide for our intended use. We also had a specific budget to hit and it's unlikely we could have stayed within it unless we went to a much older Lance.


    Congrats, the 990 is what we are leaning towards. Looked at the 992 this weekend and one downside is the camper is not accessible with the slide in.
