Stick with Glomex antenna or get a better replacement?

I found that regular coat hanger inside the camper worked better than the Glomax on the roof. I took it off, covered it with a piece of stainless and threw it in the garbage.

At least it doesn't stick up catching things and at least in my mind I get a little better miles per gallon w/o it.
