TC with family of four?

First off, thanks for a great forum. I have spent tons of time on here and appreciate all of the content that you all have created.

I have read everything I could find on tc'ing with a family and just want more info from those who do it or have done it in the past.

I am interested in hearing from families that use a hard side TC with their kid(s).

I am aware of the Lance 830 with a tent and the Adventurer with the slide out bunk although I think both mfg.'s have discontinued these more family friendly campers. Guess they didn't sell...

Below is a bit of background about us but I will list my main questions up top so you don't have to read through our life story if you don't want to!

Questions:

- Is a truck camper "quicker" for weekend getaways vs. a tt? Hooking up vs. loading the camper etc.

- Do any TC families use their TC for a day or two at the ski resort? Or is it simply too tight and that is more reserved for couples?

- Am I insane for thinking about a camper with 2 adults, 2 young kids and 1 dog? I'm open to a slide out.

- Really like the idea of using a camper for long day trips or over nighters. Somehow, a TC just seems like less of a hassle for a quick trip than a tt. Am I correct in assuming this? Or are both equally as time consuming?

Background:

Last May my wife and I bought a new Four Wheel Camper Hawk shell model for our 2006 Tundra crew cab. I had always wanted a pop up camper and we enjoyed it for one very short season. We took a great two week trip through ID, Wyoming and Montana and both of us really liked the truck camper style of RV'ing. I really like not towing anything major and if we wanted, we could bring our small aluminum boat with the tc option.

However, we also had our 1 year old son with us on all of the trips in the FWC. It became very clear that there simply wasn't enough room for us long term. Both in storage and walking around room in there.

We ended up having some other financial obligations and knowing that the FWC was too tight, we took a hit and sold our like new camper.

Flash forward to now. My son is almost two and my wife is pregnant with our second boy!

Camping is one of our favorite activities so some type of rv is in our future. We don't want to tent camp with kids long term but will this season.

I know the "safe" route is to go with a tt. However I'm not ready to give up the truck camping dream yet!

I'm clear that any hard side TC route is going to force me to upgrade to at least a 1 ton and possibly a dually which I'm ok with.

Thanks in advance!
