Nice!! I do have a question not being familiar with this area. Is it safe to camp in those dry river beds? Thinking of a flash flood.
I actually know several members of a group who went car camping out there some years ago. I think it was in February. They got to high ground when the water rose, but even later were unable to get out of the area until a jeep club came and rescued them.
The Fish Creek area is great to explore, but you ought never forget that it drains a VERY large area of desert.
Anutami, great TR and photos, as usual. Thanks!- Excellent adventure, can't wait to get there myself!

We love Anza and stay there from time to time. We stay at the Palm Canyon campground, cheap and full hookups. No way would I camp in one of the washes. Lots of things to see if you drive a bit like slot canyons and beautiful areas like the OP posted.
That is the great thing about Anza Borrego, there are campgrounds with full hook ups, remote campgrounds, and full on boondocking possibilities. - anutamiExplorer III

DJ, Hi ya, extreme precaution must be taken when entering the desert washes. Flash floods can occur any time of year. The washes are always changing from year to year because of them. However, MOST Flash floods occur within the summer months due to the thunderstorms and not the winter storms.
Here is an example of someone who did not take precaution and almost lost his life!
Fish Creek Flash Flood
that being said, I am more nervous about earthquakes occuring and causing a rock slide or wash to be blocked. I always make sure to camp in the open site away from an unstable looking cliff.
