TT steps are to high sometimes.

We taken our TT out 5 times so far this year. 3 out of the 5 times the step to get into the TT was a big jump for me. It gets a bit hard to get in and out sometimes. Our TT only has one step on it, not like the newer models that I see with 2 or 3. How have some of you gotten around this. My husband is a carpenter by trade so making something isn't gonna be a problem. I'm basically looking for what has worked for you guys and what hasn't. We have talked about building steps to hang off our existing step or build a platform that you can add steps to it.

Here is the step I made for my trailer. It is made to exact dimensions of my truck bed, it just slides right in and I can store stuff right on top of it.

We picked up an old exercise step at a garage sale for $2.00. It is plastic and is quite wide and stable.

We have been using an add on step very similar to this one for many years. I comes completely off when not in use and is very sturdy and safe when in use.

It is kind of pricy but may give you or your husband an idea for making one similar.

Had the same problem with my 21sso starcraft had one step. Just finished adding a unit with 2 steps. Kinda of a pain to remove old step since it was welded. Finally got it off new unit slid right in where the old one was using bolts to hold it on.

We have a platform that is 2 feet by 1.5 feet. Our trailer has 3 steps and it is a big step to get in sometimes so we use the wooden step.

I have the same problem with my OFF-ROAD POPUP with 15-inch wheels.

It certainly is missing the first step on the ground haha...


I went with this Camping World folding steps... What I like about this on is the steps is a grate and allows you to stomp on it knocking dirt off your shoes... Sometimes I leave the four legs still folded up...

Have had mine ever since I got this trailer in 2008.

Folds up great and sits just inside the trailer door when in travel mode.

It's a problem mainly with trailers who have the door located too far from the axles. Doors close to the axles are nearly always the same height.

I made a step from 1 x 3 strapping. 4 pieces on their edge with one cross the middle and & floored over with 1 x 3. IIRC I have it approx. 30" x 48". I travel with it in the bed of my truck. DW has a little Welcome mat for it. When in the truck, I place it upside down and store my generator and gas bottle in it, enabling me to slide them easily on and off the tailgate and farther ahead in the pan.

My mother uses a folding aluminum step that sits below her 3rd step. It works well if the ground is completely level, but most times the ground isn't completely level, and it's an ankle sprain waiting to happen. If it's wet grass below it slips around, it wobbles when the ground is uneven, and even though the base is wider than the top, it still wiggles if you don't step in the middle of it.

If your husband makes one, make it bigger than you think you need. You want it to be as stable as possible. Since he's a carpenter, I'm sure he can make a decent step.

Not to disparage anyone that would build their own. Make sure the steps won't tip when stepped on the edge. Make base wider than top.

How do I know? I made a box , it tipped, and cost my wife a broken ankle.

I made a wood step with 4 legs, non-slip surfacing, and slot hole to grab and move it. Sits right inside the door while traveling, and if we don'd need it sits just outside the door on the ground. Could have bought one similar but was real easy to build.

Have your hubby make a 6" tall step platform. Use it under the bottom step when needed. If that is not enough, He could make 2 of them, one longer than the other so that they could be stacked and provide two steps if needed.

This one, or the one we have. Lightweight, and folds small for travel.

While you could make one of wood, that could get wet in rain, or morning dew, and would not store so well for travel.
