Either option would work equally well if properly done. If done incorrectly, either method can cause you a lot of problems next season.
Bingo! This is the key, no doubt about it. - mustangglpExplorerI live 17 miles from the coast we get cold enough to crack engine blocks with out antifreeze every couple of years.
- mdcampingExploreralways used the pink stuff...the saying goes...if in doubt flush it out! :B
Mike - dadmomhExplorerAgree with bikendan re the climate. However, if you have even the slightest concern that temps are going to get lower than 32 and stay there, when in doubt.....at the least blow out the lines. Cannot imagine you needing the pink stuff, but better to use a couple of gallons than to lay awake at night worrying about the lines freezing. Not worth it. Sleep tight.
- bikendanExplorerSommer, we've had our Roo for 7 years now and we've NEVER had to winterize. with you living on the coast, you should have less of a reason to winterize.
what we call "hard freezes" are nothing like what other call it. we on the West Coast have NOTHING like what other areas of the country call "hard freezes".
we may get down overnite in the low 30's for a day or two but it starts warming up in the morning. i've been in Napa for 11 years now and have only seen overnite temps in the 20's a handful of times.
winterizing is for areas that DON'T warm up above freezing all day or for extended periods of freezing.
personally, i've never seen a West Coast hybrid owner on any forum, that winterizes, unless they live in the Sierras or Cascades.
if you still feel concerned, blowing out the lines would be sufficient. - BumpyroadExplorer

When doing a blow-out, any "gotchas"?
yes potentially.
bumpy - The_WeekendersExplorerOut in CA, blow out would be fine I would think. Here in the frozen tundra of North Dakota, I go the route of the Anti Freeze. Only takes my 10-15 minutes to shoot the pink juice to the Monty and with periods in January/February of temps dropping in the teens below to 30 below and highs of 10 15 below, I have piece of mind.

- WyoTravelerExplorerWe live in WY. It gets cold up here. We only blow out our lines. Never use the pink stuff except for p traps. We have a washer so we pour in a half galon and spin it out. Never a problem. The lowest temp I see in Monterey was 20 degrees back in 1990. Does it normally freeze close to the ocean? I never worried about those temps in So Ca because it warmed up during the day.
- BuckBarkerExplorerBlow out the lines and add antifreeze to ALL drains.
