wireless thermostat extender?

I would just move it around that corner from the tv.
You might find enough cable in the wall to just pull it over direct.

I'm sorta thinking outside the box here, but could you rig a very small fan to move a little air past the thermostat and eliminate the heat build up there?

I thought about that, but since I have a speaker bar mounted above the TV all the heat comes out the end of the cabinet.

I can get thermostat wire (one small cable with the wires inside) and I can access the wall cavity inside the cabinet. From there I think I can pry the moldings around the ceiling, and between wall panels to hide the wire.
At least that's what I'll try when I get a chance.

How about you just run the wires and mount it on the side of the cabinet? It would still see some of the heat, but at least the heat wouldn't be trapped.

IMO, my best choice will be to put the therm on this hallway (bathroom) wall. Not the most central spot, but at least out from behind or above the TV.

Pull the old one off the wall and splice the wires with a new section of wiring. Make a short run into the overhead cabinet and route the wires through it to the preferred location. Tuck it in nicely in the corner of the cabinet and secure it with adhesive backed plastic tabs (get them in the electrical section at the hardware store). Put a simple wall blank (outlet cover) over the hole where the old thermostat was. It'll look clean and maintain your access to the wire splice. I can envision this whole process taking about 30 minutes.

The one picture would be fine although if it were me and I were getting a new one anyway, I would get a digital thermostat to more finely control the temperature swings either side of the set point.

I must have deleted some of my second post. I was indicating that the therm. I have looks like the one in the pic.

Yere are lots of thermostats that do what I want ... leave the wiring and receiver where it is, but have the sensor somewhere else. No wiring needed, BUT there are none that are 12 volt. They're all 24 volt, so I'll just have to bite the bullet and rewire.

I don't know of any way to do it without moving the wires, it isn't complicated.

I replaced the original stat with a digital and located the mechanical one near the bed. They are wired in parallel so either one will operate the system depending on settings. It isn't difficult to do the wiring.
