I've seen plenty of Fantastic Fans with vent covers. However, when registering with the company so I will be covered by the 2-year warranty, I read some small print stating that the manufacturer "does not recommend covering your Fantastic Fan with a vent cover" because it will cut down on efficiency and create more fan noise. I installed the vent cover so I could leave the vent open without worrying about rain (no rain sensor on my model) and keep air circulating when MH sits in the sun without the AC or Fantastic Fan operating. I know many FF owners use covers. Has anyone had problems as a result? Has anyone avoided installing a vent cover over their FF because of the company warning?Re: More Chevys needed?Ditto here. Not only do we need more Chevy chassises, but other makes too, particularly for the Class C market. More V-6s, more small diesels; they are in great demand but the choices are few. I'm constantly looking for my next MH and each time I see one powered by a Ford V-10 I skip to the next listing. I notice that Winnebago Rialtas and other V-6 powered vehicles usually sell for more than a 38-40 MHs of the same age with more luxury features. Some of the most expensive MHs being sold today are Class Bs powered by Mercedes diesels. I read on these forums that campers should quit worrying about fuel prices and just have fun. Glad I own some oil stocks and not auto shares. Once again American auto companies are going to give away the market to foreign manufacturers. Example: The new Dodge 6s from Fiat. Winnebago's Trend will be powered by a Fiat. Nuff said.Re: refrigerator out of controlThanks for all the responses. The model number is RM2410.refrigerator out of controlI have a small Dometic one-door fridge in the MH. Last trip out, the bottom part was too cold, below freezing. We discovered that the freezer (upper) door spring was broken and cold temps seeped into the main compartment. We replaced the springs and put new gasket around the freezer compartment. But we still have the same problem. We set the thermostat at 5 two days ago checked yesterday. Water in the lower compartment was frozen. We turned it down to 4 and still had frozen water this morning. It is now setting on 2 and we'll see if that solves the problem. But we suspect that the thermostat may be malfunctioning. Has anyone had similar problems or does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Would appreciate any help. New fridges are expensive.Re: Best MPG from most popular MH enginesThanks for the advice. It confirms my suspicions that that most MH 8 or 10 cylinder engines get from 8 to 11 MPG under normal driving and hauling conditions. Want more get a diesel or six-cylinder gas engine.Best MPG from most popular MH enginesI'm in the market for an older Class C. Most of the ones I look at are powered by Ford 460 V-8, Chevy 350 V-8 and Dodge 440 V-8. I realize that MPG varies greatly by engine size, weight of MH and speed. Is there any consensus, all variables being as near equal as possible, which of these engines will deliver the greatest MPG? I know this is an apples vs. oranges comparison but would appreciate any guidance from forum members.Re: Safety Rest AreasRecently drove north on I-35 and stopped at one off these new rest stops. They are called safety stops because they have buildings designed to withstand tornadoes. Motorists, including RVers, can seek safety in them if they are heading into severe weather. Good idea since I can think of nothing worse than being caught in a tornado in a motorhome or big TT.Re: 1985 toyota motor homeFrom someone who owns a Toyota Class C: Like any motorhome, Toys (that's what their owners call them), can be marvelous, efficient machines or pieces of junk. Prices range anywhere from $2,000 to $17,000--and you get what you pay for. If it runs smooth, looks good and has no major defects, expect to pay in the $5,000 to $8,000 range. Any price above that should be for an exceptional clean, well-cared for MH. Some brands, such as Sun Raders, have a cult-like following so expect to pay extras for that cache. Other than that, use your common sense--and check twice or three times for signs leaks; they are the deadly enemies of all MHs, particularly Class Cs.Re: Frequently Asked Questions about Class C'sWhat do you owners of older Class Cs plan do when the EPA follows up on its proposal to force refiners to blend at least 15% ethanol in gasoline? the EPA admits that 15 percent ethanol can damage older engines like the ones pulling Toyota Class Cs and older V8s. My mechanic tells me that even 10 percent ethanol is damaging older engines but the government will not admit it. In addition to engine damage, ethanol reduces mileage so we will be getting a double whammy from the Obama bureaucrats.
