It will be difficult to dial in effective toad braking without placing undue wear on your toad brakes. A user on another forum says he solved this problem with a bungee cord that prevents surge brake activation on, presumably, gentle slopes. Your point is well made however. it is really the only concern I have about using a surge brake system.Re: Autostop vs Ready Brute vs something elseThank all of yall for the informative responses. Certainly seems as though the surge brake systems have plenty of fans.Autostop vs Ready Brute vs something elseTo the assembled wise men and sages i submit this Class A newbie question: Is it more wise to use a surge brake system such as Blue Ox Autostop or ready Brute Elite, if so do you have a preference; or is it more wise to tow with a conventional tow bar? I have a 97 Foretravel U320 11L Cummings tipping the scales at about 31K#. I will be towing an 03 Acura TL weighs @3500#. I prefer something the old lady can hook and unhook so convenience is a pretty big consideration otherwise she aint gonna do it. Also the huge cost savings of a surge brake system is interesting but not absolutely necessary if the surge brake systems had significant disadvantages. So, if you would please share your experiences with the surge brake systems, good and bad.Re: Hershey, Pa show a good place to sell my RV? dapperdan wrote: Michelle.S wrote: We have friends and relatives who have made good deals at the Hershey show, trading in their current units on a new one. I don't know how Texas taxes work, but in many states when trading RVs, cars, or trucks you only pay sales taxes on the difference between trade value and selling price. In some cases that can be several thousand dollars. X2 I think trading it in would and saving the extra tax $$$ would off-set the lower amount you get from PPL or CW. Have you tried talking a "deal" to a local dealer near you? When we traded our first fifth wheel in ('08 Montana Mountaineer) for our '11 Montana we got a hell of a trade in allowance from Pete's RV in Indiana. I was pleasantly surprised. Dan Week before last we asked about trade-in because the dealer had a unit we really liked. They started at $30k and eventually increased that to 35k. Not worth considering. BTW I am aware of that innTx and several other states one is not required to pay sales tax on the value of the trade. However if the trade is valued at 35k then you are only saving a little over $2000. That hardly compensates for selling to the dealer for 10-15k less than one could sell to an individual.Re: Hershey, Pa show a good place to sell my RV? spoon059 wrote: So my dad did just this thing when he sold his class C about 10 years ago. Went to Hershey show early, parked it near the entrance with a For Sale sign and sold it that day. Driving from TEXAS to Hershey sounds rather expensive to me. Looks like 1600 miles to Hershey from Victoria. At 12 mpg towing, that's 133 gallons of gas ONE WAY. Hoping to sell in one day, or else camping near one of the largest RV shows (lots of money to stay, hard to find a spot). Then you gotta drive back home, and what if it doesn't sell? Sounds to me that it is WAY less risky to just trade it in or sell on Craigslist local. What camper do you have, what did they offer and what are you hoping to sell it for? Unless the potential upside is several thousand dollars, I'm not sure it would be worth the risk... The last offer I got was $35k on a trade-in. Substandard even as a trade-in offer. The best was 45k on a trade-in for a brand new quarter million dollar motor home. I have it on CL and here as well as some other sites for 49,999. It is absolutely true what several commenters have said; owners tend to overvalue their stuff. I looked at the advertised prices on CL for Cyclone units similar age and model and I think I priced it in the middle of the range- which was 55k on the high end to about 45k on the low end. I would certainly appreciate anyone's comments as to my pricing of the unit.Re: Hershey, Pa show a good place to sell my RV? We have been planning a trip to Pensalvania and there is no reason we can't take the RV, but we had thought to drive the car and hotel camp simply for the convenience. So the real question is whether the odds of selling the Rv justify the extra hassle, time and expense of pulling a 44' Toy Hauler up there. FYI it is a 2014 Cyclone 4018, 2 slides 18 garage all the goodies like central vac and 6 pt level, artic pkg, 3 ACs, 4 season doors, etc. BTW when you say your dad went early can you be more specific? How early to get a nice, visible spot hi traffic spot?Re: Hershey, Pa show a good place to sell my RV? spoon059 wrote: So my dad did just this thing when he sold his class C about 10 years ago. I did go sit down with PPL several months ago. As I recall the price they wanted me to agree to was quite low, lower than a typical trade-in price. I have also talked to Camping Worls about their consignments, better than PPL I think but with a little luck one might be ahead finding a private buyer.Hershey, Pa show a good place to sell my RV?It would be a drive for us but we have never been there and are willing to do it if it seems a reasonable opportunity to sell our RV,,as well as perhaps find our next RV:) for those of you who have been to the Hershey show do you think it is a reasonable idea or long shot? Do you have any specific suggestions as to how would be best to go about it? Are there particular campgrounds with high visibility or traffic for instance. Thanks in advance for any advice.Re: Flex Air Pinbox is for sale- any reviews?Since I started this thread I thought I should do all the courtesy of giving my own review of the flex Air pin box. We set off in March for TN, SC, Fl and thence back home to South Texas. We had not gotten more that 500 miles before I had had enough and decided, despite the dearth of reviews to take a chance and buy the new flex air. It wasnt until the Tampa area that we were able to get one installed at a Camping World so my review is limited to just the roughly 1000 miles from there to Victoria. Further my review is even more limited because my unit had a leaky valve which meant that after a couple hours my flex air had no air and therefore didnt flex. Filled it up twice on the way back. So this is a review of the four or so hours that the thing was working as designed. My conclusion was: Wow! I really liked it. Briefly! It really seemed to moderate the chucking and the bucking, of which we would get no small amount on the less than perfect roads. The expansion joints could be pretty brutal. The flex Air took a lot of that out of our ride. The leaky air valve was suggested by the kid at camping World after I called in to see how they were gonna deal with it. He was right. I took it off, slapped some locktite type of product on it and though I have only towed it a few miles since then I do believe that i fixed it.
